I'm very much with Blackmac on this one - if there's a head collision that's bad enough to warrant a YC it should be an automatic HIA.

You can't be offside when the maul hasn't formed yet.

So it’s a matter of timing? I suppose the other Irish players hold off until Lowe gets there and plays to kill the maul, winning the scrum put in.

Happens very rarely and would never happen from a kick in open play. If you think it's bad, have a look at "mauls" in sevens.

It's a more dynamic form of coming around the back of a lineout maul if they transfer to the back too quickly.

I'm suggesting that players who appear to have been the victims of significant foul play should be looked after, not completely ignored as happened with the Irish on two occasions in this match. Any other point you may think I'm making is just nonsense.

I'd tend to agree, if a player is sent off for contact with the head, then the player on the receiving end should be under HIA protocols. I think we should always err on the side of caution on this.
