Unconfirmed reports from Russian media said the aircraft might have collided with a flock of birds before crashing.

Speculation that it was shot in error by air defence. Excuse given of a drone attack at the time.

Super work by the pilots saving anybody at all.

No doubt Russia will find a way to say it wasn't their fault...

Yup. The fragmentation damage is evident all over tail/rudder and stabilisers. Looks just like flak damage.

It will be a complete cover up.

It was fog, innit?!

Head of Rosaviatsia (Russian Federal Air Transport Agency) comments on the Aktaу plane crash for the first time:

Dmitry Yadrov stated dense fog in Grozny airport forced the commander to abort two landing attempts. Alternate airports were offered, but he chose Aktau. Yadrov noted the situation near Grozny was "complex," with the "Carpet" plan activated due to drone attacks.

TBF has does say they are shooting at anything that comes into the area. Airline chose a strange destination for the divert and in hindsight it was a fatal mistake.

according to the russian official.....

let's see how much the russian government is willing to piss off the Azerbaijan one
"Azerbaijan does not need any help. Neither the state nor the citizens will accept such help. We are and will continue to provide the necessary assistance to our citizens. Azerbaijan demands recognition of the fact, apology, and payment of appropriate compensations," Day. az news portal writes, citing a source in the presidential administration.

This may be a Russian lie. An earlier report said that the pilots requested a closer airport but were denied so had to cross the Caspian Sea.

An Azerbaijani Airlines plane was drunk and fell out of a hotel window, before tragically crashing in a ball of flames, the Kremlin has claimed.

The US suggested the jet was brought down by Russian air defence systems, but Russia has denied any involvement, saying it was an unfortunate accident.

“The plane was staying overnight in a hotel, as is often the case for large passenger aircraft relaxing between shifts,” the Kremlin spokesperson said. “Unfortunately it had a few drinks, the window was open, and it fell out. Our thoughts are with the victims”.

The President of Azerbaijan has unequivocally stated that his country believes the passenger plane was damaged from the ground. Aliyev clearly has no intention of remaining silent about the incident, as Putin might wish. Putin's "apologies" yesterday, lacking an admission of direct responsibility, are far from satisfactory to the affected party.

Attempting to keep a jet in the air with no elevators and possibly no rudder.
