Elon Musk bought Twitter.
So why is he backing AfD in Germany?I like neeps wrote: Thu Jan 02, 2025 1:20 pmIt's coming from his sincere dislike of Keir Starmer. That's the only reason he's bothering with Nigel Farage. Doesn't even have business interests in the UK to exploit.

Sincere is not a word I'd use about Musk in any context.

Don't follow him or pay enough attention to him to know. To credit Farage with anything Musk does is giving him too much credit. And I think this support of AfD shows it further that it's more likely Musk is just a far right chancer as the rest of the rich are.
Bill Ackman is piling on too. The faux sincerity is actually disgusting because the likes of him and Elon are not making any substantive or constructive points it's just troll level stuff. You can't convince me that venture capitalists give a single flying fuck about working class people half the world away.
That said, heads should roll all the way to the very top. The Labour party fed working class people to wolves.

With the news that the driver had a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head, there are some pretty far out theories flying around on Twitter to add to the usual conspiracy loon stuff. A team from Tesla will attempt to recover in-cabin video footage from the Cybertruck, so maybe we can learn some more about thisUncle fester wrote: Thu Jan 02, 2025 7:34 pm 37 year old active duty special ops soldier with gunshot wound to head is the dead guy.

Tesla just announced their first ever decline in annual vehicle deliveries !
They've already fulfilled all the orders for the mobile Urinal, & production has been mostly shutdown, & massive discounting has started, & they've no new models planned to perk up sales, & an absentee CEO, so maybe the Market is going to finally call this fraud for what it is ?
Seeing as almost all his theoretical worth is tied up in Tesla stock, he might not be the richest man for much longer

It might also conceivably be because their best selling car, the Model Y, is about to launch mk II (Juniper) for delivery this quarter, so buyers are holding off in the usual fashion, whilst MK I is discounted.
Plus the problems all auto manufacturers have in the current climate, and the much, much, much wider pool of competitors. I've been around EVs long enough to remember when the only real options were a Renault Zoe (possibly with battery lease), a Nissan LEAF or a Tesla Model S, with a couple of other half-arsed efforts cramming a battery into an existing ICE platform like the VW e-Golf and Mercedes Benz B Class 250e.
I think calling Tesla a fraud is a bit OTT. Overpriced as a stock, yes, but it's not a house of cards.

The fraud is the excess valuation is mostly down to the lies spouted by their CEO; aided & abetted by his stooges in the Board.
Musk clearly is “on the spectrum” and spending too long in labour/difficult births increase the chances of a child having mental issues. Someone should ask the cnut how long his mother was in labour.

Man who unbans a horde of deeply problematic accounts, fires the moderation team, permits homophobia, racism and misogyny to run rampant on the platform , actively promotes conspiracy theories and misinformation and propaganda, remunerates accounts based on engagement (controversey is known to be the biggest driver of engagement) while doing fuck all about removing bots wonders why his site is a fucking cesspit of negativity. Musk has been melting down over the rape gangs for days now. It's just completely unhealthy to be obsessively posting like this, day after day.
The issue has been discussed to death on Twitter/X and there have been some very interesting takes from throughout the Anglosphere and beyond.
I think classism is at the heart of the problem. The ruling classes of the UK simply don't care about working class people enough to have acted in the appropriate fashion to stop the raping. I think it's also at the heart of Tice and Farage's denunciations of Robinson. It's not that they take issue with the things he has brought to light on a substantive level it's just that rather more superficially he is a hooligan.
That a hooligan was ahead of the curve on addressing these issues (or at least pointing them out) really speaks to a massive flaw in the machinery of British govt. that will have to be addressed. As aforementioned, for me classism is still a problem and I'm more than a little concerned about ethnic voting blocs and the patronage systems that they create whereby politicians look the other way in exchange for votes. That is not a healthy think for a democracy whatsoever.

Farage can maybe get 20% of the vote, but to have a shot at power he needs to get that over 30% and he can't do that if enough of middle England thinks he's a Tommy Robinson supporter. He already needs people to hold their noses and skip past there are a lot of UKIP/Reform who overtly or otherwise support Yaxley-Lennon, which is to say hold various extreme/racist/homophobic positions. Wanting to get that next 10-15% of the vote is what's driving frog face, but he's learning the nice way you can't just assume you'll keep your base. An interesting strategy from the man who says he wants to be PM mind, presented with a challenge from Musk he's opted for run silent, run deep in the hope the problem goes away without him needing to act
Also rather odd in all this is we did have an inquiry, one that returned a list of recommendations back in 2015 maybe 2016? And the Tories presented with a list that many involved in the various sectors thought good ideas did nothing with it, and Rayner in saying it wasn't for HMG to determine the need for a further report didn't exactly clarify if Labour would enact the recommendations already on the table. The politics says it's much more important to drive a sense of outrage than to seek sensible progress, which perhaps is depressing more than it's odd

Council/police in Rotherham etc were a combination of totally gutless, idiots and people who were very clearly on the take. Of course in Telford covering up the crimes got Davies the Labour candidacy and then subsequently a seat in Parliament. Then you have the judiciary, some of these people were convicted of raping a child and got two and a half year sentences. That's just an insult to the victims.
There's a massive disconnect between the people who wield substantive power and working class people.

Broad generalisation here, but it seems to me that Musk is a clear example of the divisive polarisation that marks our current phase of 'civilisation'. His supporters are fanatical and blind to his failings while those who don't give him the attention and loyalty he craves are turned on. He'll lose some followers with his antics and the glow will wear off but the damage is done already.Sandstorm wrote: Mon Jan 06, 2025 3:39 pmI agree, but good luck getting The Media to stop giving him airtime.![]()
The social media era has given us division and hate and it's not going anywhere in the foreseeable. Maybe Musk will stumble badly, overestimate his influence and offend all of his supporters but it's unlikely. Humanity currently seems blind to a perspective outside of their personal device's screen and the chances of a charismatic leader rising to offer hope and a way forward seem nothing more than fantasy.

I don’t think social media has polarised society so much as revealing existing polarisation which has been exacerbated by a decline in living standards
