It’s not a coaching issue, it’s team mates. WP backline is all kids, no experienced old-hands left. They’ve all gone overseas.

Actually I think Willemse would shine with a season of Frans Steyn at 12

The only way Willemse can come back is if the press stopped talking him up every week and he goes back to Vodacom Cup and learns to play in a team...

This kid has been led to believe that he is Carlos Spencer and Dan Carter rolled up in one

What team? He probably is the most talented 10 in SA. Therefore in order to get his head right and actually play with experienced players who can calm him down and have him play as a team-player, he needs to play with the very best globally. And have the best coaches.

So where should he go? Crusaders? Toulouse? 'Cos there is no team in SA that will manage him properly.

SPOTLIGHT: Is the Western Province Rugby Football Union about to walk away from yet another deal with a company that provided them with a ‘loan’ to pay off debts?

The Afrikaans website Netwerk24 reported on Saturday that WPRFU’s much-touted marriage with the Flyt Property Group could be on the rocks.

According to the report the WPRFU would “reconsider its options” if information about ‘terms and conditions’ agreed to in the deal are not forthcoming.

It is suggested that WPRFU wants a guarantee that Flyt is in compliance with the agreed ‘terms and conditions’.

WPRFU President Zelt Marais was not immediately available for comment and Flyt Managing Director Zane de Decker also did not respond immediately to requests for his reaction.

However, the report suggests that ‘alternative options’ mentioned in previous dispatches by Marais may well be an ‘offer’ from Nehawu Investment Holdings – the commercial arm of the trade union Nehawu.

Handre Basson, a Cape Town property developer, was the person that acted on behalf of NIH in putting together the initial proposal.

Before the offer from the trade union was considered, WPRFU signed the agreement with Flyt and formed two new companies – Newlands DevCo and Brookside DevCo – with Flyt as an equal partner.

The ‘partnership’ with the Flyt Property Group allowed WPRFU to unlock a loan of ZAR112-million from Dream World Investments 401 (Pty) Ltd – a company within the Flyt group.

That loan was used to pay off previous debts owed to Remgro (ZAR58-million) and Investec (ZAR50-million).

Bonds were to be registered on the Newlands Stadium and Brookside properties to secure the loan from Dream World.

@rugby365com has reliably learnt that Ebrahim Rasool, the new Chairman of the board of WP Professional Rugby (Pty) Ltd, is working on alternative options.

If Rasool, head of WPPR, the professional arm of the WPRFU, is indeed courting his connections in the trade union Nehawu, it will raise many new questions.

Given Marais’ public statements about “professional and ethical” behaviour – especially in the union’s dealings with American lawyer Marco V Masotti and his consortium MVM Holdings – it would not look good if they are about to walk away from a third benefactor/creditor in 12 months – Remgro, Investec and now Flyt/Dream World.

There are rumours of a reported ZAR2-million ‘finders fee’ that was paid out after the deal with Flyt. If this is the case, what happened to this ‘finders’ fee?

* Meanwhile it was revealed that Vincent Mai, a benefactor of Grey Highschool in Port Elizabeth and a connection of Springbok captain Siyamthanda Kolisi, is part of the Masotti consortium.

Kolisi visited Mai back in December 2019.

“Vincent [Mai] is a fellow Grey boy and has invested in 100s of kids in SA through bursaries, majority of the time without ever meeting them,” Kolisi said in an Instagram post.

“I was one of those kids.

“Without the opportunity, there is no way I’d be where I am today.”

Netwerk24 reports that six expat South Africans are now in the Masotti stable.

Apart from Mai, the Masotti consortium includes Gary Cobbledick, Jan A. Pieterse, David Berman and Trevor Norwitz.

Masotti, Mai and Berman are all based in New York, while Pieterse is in Los Angeles.

Michael Yormark, the Chief Executive of Roc Nation, the agency managing Kolisi, is also part of the MVM consortium.

Masotti is negotiating with WPRFU for a controlling share (51 percent) of the commercial arm, WPPR.

Another big name in the camp is Mike Tomon, Chief Operating Officer of the company Legends, which has among its clients global brands like Manchester City and New York Yankees.

Other big names include Marc Lasry (Milwaukee Bucks basketball team), Doug Cifu (Florida Panthers hockey) and Steven Price (Atlanta Hawks basketball).

Your answer is in your post, offer your clients discounts for shorter credit terms.

Or, as they are business partners of yours, just ask them for shorter credit terms for a few months.

NEWS: The truculent and fractious Westerns Province Rugby Football Union boardroom saga has taken another dramatic turn.

It has been confirmed that the representatives of the WPRFU’s two main sponsors – DHL and BrightRock – have resigned as directors of the board of Western Province Professional Rugby (Pty) Ltd.

WPRFU confirmed that President Zelt Marais and Chairman of the Board of Directors Ebrahim Rasool will hold a virtual media conference on Wednesday to address the resignation of the two sponsorship directors.

@rugby365com has learnt that Hennie Heymans (DHL) and Suzanne Stevens (BrightRock) are the two who handed in their resignations this week.

They are the fourth and fifth members of the board of the professional arm, WPPR, to have departed under a cloud since June.

The boardroom battles started much earlier, but really escalated in June – when Kevin Kiewitz walked away from the union in protest over their handling of negotiations with Investec.

That followed when two independent directors of the board, Johan van der Merwe and Andre van der Veen, were told in August their services were no longer required. Their terms of office came to an end and at the board AGM, it was decided not to extend their terms.

Van der Merwe was replaced as Chairman of the board of WPPR (Pty) Ltd by political firebrand Ebrahim Rasool.

In September Raymond van Niekerk handed in his resignation, ostensibly because he has had enough of the boardroom politics. He indicated that the unwillingness of WPRFU too offer Van der Merwe and Van der Veen new terms was key to the decision.

And this week Heymans and Stevens handed in their resignations.

The boardroom drama had a number of sub-plots.

There was the decision to walk away from negotiations with Investec – resulting in the need to repay ZAR112-million in loans to Remgro and Investec – signing a Newlands development deal with the Flyt group and getting a new loan from Dream World, while starting negotiations with an American consortium, MVM Holdings, as a possible equity partner.

It has since been suggested that WPRFU are also about to walk away from the Flyt deal, although Marais has not yet responded to any requests for comment on the reports.

It also appears the negotiations with the American consortium, headed by South African-born-and-bred American lawyer Marco V Masotti, have stalled.

It is reported that the resignations of the sponsors are directly linked to the unwillingness of WPRFU to speedily conclude the negotiations with Masotti’s consortium.

@rugby365com has reliably learnt that Rasool, the new Chairman of the board of WP Professional Rugby (Pty) Ltd, is working on alternative options.

It is believed Rasool, as head of the professional arm of the WPRFU, is courting his connections in the trade union Nehawu.

These questions will, hopefully, be addressed at Wednesday’s media briefing.

This is honestly no good at all for the WP. If they are not careful they will land up as a team that has no sponsor or financial backing.

Surely if the sponsors representatives resign as directors, their position as sponsors are on thin ice. The penny has to drop that the financial implications could kill the union.

Tbh, my view on such matters is that if I cannot do anything about it, what's the use of worrying about it. It is what it is. Best I can hope for is that cooler heads prevail, the situation gets resolved and that the guilty parties are identified.

Look....they are the most mismanaged Union in SA.

I said that the few months I tried to be a supporter.
The worst thing is that they have a massive following of supporters that although they have undying devotion to the cause, are a few sandwiches short of a picnic.

Putting a politician in charge of your franchise must be like a kick in the balls to any sane and sensible person.

The worrying thing is that Rasool has chased away the two biggest sponsors by removing their board members....
Now if ever there was a vote of no confidence in an entity , it would be for your sponsors to sit on the boards top make sure you aren't stealing the kak out of things.
Well we know how the ANC has managed

You expect me to toy toy in front of Newlands? Sorry boet, I'm too busy at work and it's not my style.

The boardroom trouble is because I don't have balls? Scratching my head trying to figure out what you're saying here.

Not support my team because of issues in the boardroom that is not the making of the players or coaches? GTFU boet.

Meaningless? Have you watched the show about Newlands on DSTV? Not on a app, so I'm sure you missed it. It's the stuff of legend, goosebumps stuff.

You're coming across as a selfish brat and someone looking for instant gratification, a bit like the younger generation of today. It does not sit well with someone your age.
