This happened yesterday, the occupants of the cabin that crashed seem to have minor injuries only, which is good news. My daughter was on the lift a bit further up the mountain when it failed. The lift was obviously shut down and after 6 (!) hours, they were rescued by the ski patrol and abseiled down.
She was able to keep us up to date with progress, so it was a slightly stressful time here (much more so on the gondola, I'm sure) waiting to hear if she got down to the ground safely. She said the best thing about being back on the ground was she could finally have a pee.
She sent a few photos/video, including using helicopters to get ski patrol to some of the cabins. This is because - get this - the lift goes over a grizzly bear enclosure, and the bear, called Boo, is awake and was seen out sunbathing in the last few days.

Left hand down a bit
Shit scary stuff! Looks like the cabin didn't properly reconnect to the main cable once it was loaded up and ready to depart? Thankfully there didnt seem any problem with the main cable. Glad she is ok and it hasn't put her off skiing.S/Lt_Phillips wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 12:24 pm https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british- ... -1.7479547

I've never been in a cable car/cabin/bubble get stuck but I was in a two man chairlift in Val d'Isere that got stuck in snowstorm whilst we were about 200 feet above the ground. I was sitting on the upwind side and ended up lookin like frosty the snowman by the time we got down about 30 mins later. Frozen solid and needed a few hot chocolates with a top up from the hip flask to warm up.

Erdoğan taking some fairly significant steps to cement his hold on power today. Turkey's democracy is somewhat problematic anyway, but yesterday İmamoğlu's university diploma from 35 years ago was cancelled, rendering him ineligible to be a presidential candidate, and this morning he has been arrested on terrorism and organised crime charges.
Everyone knows that İmamoğlu would probably win a presidential election if he were a candidate. He's already won Istanbul twice, is very charismatic, and is a relentless campaigner.
We will see if any street protests kick off. They might not because people are pretty numb to the regime's shenanigans and protesting doesn't really achieve anything here apart from earning you a beating and criminal charges.

Maybe they should focus on keeping the existing runways operational before they go adding anymore ?SaintK wrote: Fri Mar 21, 2025 10:56 am I hope nobody here is thinking of using Heathrow for the forseeable future!https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cly24zvvwxlt“Today’s total closure of London-Heathrow will affect at least 1,351 flights to/from LHR,” the flight tracker said in a post on Bluesky, “That doesn’t include any flights that might be canceled or delayed due to aircraft being out of position.”
This is an object lesson in why consolidating ever more flights into LH is just asking for trouble.

The runways are all still operational, there's just no power to the airport. It'll be fixed later today.

I'm not suggesting they are; just that maybe they should focus first on making their existing operation more robust, like laying on a 2nd power supply, so that even if one goes, at least they can keep a couple of terminals operational, rather than just having enough backup power to run ATC & little else.Sandstorm wrote: Fri Mar 21, 2025 1:12 pmYou know this has nothing to do with any building work or expansion plans, right?fishfoodie wrote: Fri Mar 21, 2025 11:38 amMaybe they should focus on keeping the existing runways operational before they go adding anymore ?SaintK wrote: Fri Mar 21, 2025 10:56 am I hope nobody here is thinking of using Heathrow for the forseeable future!

This was a predictable incident, & shutting down operations for a day & causing massive worldwide disruption isn't a good look.

Sorry Biffer, going to lower the fun quotient.
Does anyone else here run their own business? If so, have you noticed a massive increase in late payment of invoices? It has been insane over the last few months and absolutely killing me. I've spoken to a few people and they are all saying the same.

Thankfully no. I have the usual suspects that are always late payers, but haven't seen any significant increase. I'm probably not the best use case though, as for the most part I get payment (or partial) up front. I lose a few clients thanks to this policy, but I figure these are wasters anyway that I would spend a whole bunch of time chasing and often enough not get paid at all, so I've been much happier and sleep better since I brought it in a few years ago.Slick wrote: Wed Mar 26, 2025 10:05 am Sorry Biffer, going to lower the fun quotient.

I generally deal with small businesses, so not huge amounts but had been wasting a lot of time with dickheads essentially looking to get work done for free. The amount of times I heard "you can trust me", "I'm as honest as they come" and so on. Each and every one of them that said things like that was a cunt!
Oweing me money though seems to be very bad for the health of people's grandparents. So many of my debtors have had them up and die on them right at the same time as they are late for payment. So you'd better pay me or else I'll kill your elderly family members!!
Mine are a mix of multinationals, universities, SME's, all fucking late and all small amounts ( mostly under £1k).PornDog wrote: Wed Mar 26, 2025 10:14 amThankfully no. Possibly the best piece of business advice I ever got was to NEVER be late with any payment - your reputation is all you've got. I've seen it go the other way a good few times and guys I knew would end up losing tens of thousands of pounds worth of work because they couldn't get materials due to them stiffing suppliers in the past.
My thing that doesn't deserve its own thread - I started using a Fitbit this week, it's my push to regain the finely tuned athletic body of my youth, cough,
anyway, I chuckled last night when I got my notification that I'd done my ten thousand steps when I was on my way to the bar to buy a round

Whats the law like in the UK on late payments? I did look at it briefly here when I was dealing with this shit before I brought in my new payments policy, so didn't go too deep into it, but if they go beyond 30 days you are legally allowed to charge them interest. It's a statutory right. Not sure how often it gets implemented by companies, but its existence probably helps to keep a leash on some of the late payers.
You might see if you have something similar in the UK and then send out a shot across the bow email to all of your clients, reminding them of that statute (if it exists) and explain why you might have to start enforcing it. Might wake a few people up to the situation their late payments put you in.
You have to do something if its causing you stress and lack of sleep though - life's too short to be dealing with small bullshit like that.
UK Government has zero qualms about charging you interest on late payments for council tax or business rates bills! Private sector have that option open to them too, but we haven't used it yet in our business (yet)PornDog wrote: Wed Mar 26, 2025 10:34 am

Yeah, it's a tricky one as I also can't afford to lose the business so it's difficult to know how far to push it. Although I lost my shit with a well known company this morning who are 6 weeks late already and just told me they have fucked up the onboarding process and so have to start again which will take at least 2 weeks. I've been telling them for a month they have fucked up the onboarding process.Sandstorm wrote: Wed Mar 26, 2025 11:08 amUK Government has zero qualms about charging you interest on late payments for council tax or business rates bills! Has anyone ever used the Motorway app to sell a car? Not connected to above posts
I literally know nothing about buying and selling cars, I have always just seemed to inherit them and not particularly bothered as long as it gets me around. However, as detailed elsewhere, the current one is a pain in the hole and no one seems to be able to diagnose or fix the clutch issues - it also seems that it is very common with the car - Hyundai.
Anyway, going to sell it or trade it in and get a new/2nd hand one. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Yes, maintaining the rage is a thing - but at the very least, if he drops it later, most people return to it as adults
Yeah, I have heard good and bad but more generally good. The details of the vehicle basically go out to auction so you have more interest than the likes of We Buy any car. Your basic problem is you are relying on the buyer not noticing the clutch issue when you hand it over.Slick wrote: Wed Mar 26, 2025 4:10 pm Has anyone ever used the Motorway app to sell a car? On that note I have also heard that the inspector for We Buy any car, who operates out of the car park at Dobbies Garden Centre, is an absolute clown and fails to notice many undisclosed defects.
