If we bleed the clutch we get 3 weeks or so of it working fine, so they can drive away with it.... I actually spoke to the mechanic this morning who told me to do that, and I said I'd feel a bit bad, he basically laughed in my face and said it's a game and they wouldn't think twice so just to get on with it.Blackmac wrote: Thu Mar 27, 2025 12:13 pmYeah, I have heard good and bad but more generally good. I literally know nothing about buying and selling cars, I have always just seemed to inherit them and not particularly bothered as long as it gets me around. However, as detailed elsewhere, the current one is a pain in the hole and no one seems to be able to diagnose or fix the clutch issues - it also seems that it is very common with the car - Hyundai.
Anyway, going to sell it or trade it in and get a new/2nd hand one. Any advice greatly appreciated.
On that note I have also heard that the inspector for We Buy any car, who operates out of the car park at Dobbies Garden Centre, is an absolute clown and fails to notice many undisclosed defects.

None quite so hot as her, but yes - one of the few perks left in an office
Wasn't sure where to put this given we don't really have a European politics thread, but Marine le Pen has been banned from running for office for five years. Result of a corruption case involving her party diverting funds from the European Parliament to run their party or something.

Heard about this today yet surprised because it has quite a strong cast and is very relevant to what’s been going on the last little while!
When a planeload of Pakistani orphans are shipped to his state for permanent relocation, the governor of Idaho (Beau Bridges, who won an Emmy) defies the president (Phil Hartman) and closes the state's border. News Net Television, a cable news program that makes hay by reporting on political scandals, quickly spins the racist act into an overnight media sensation, creating a divide in national opinion over the issue.

Whilst this is obviously bollocks and she seems a very, very odd individual, the bus drivers account is actually quite shocking and if I was his boss I would definitely sack him given the account he has given which he seems quite proud off.
Bus load of 29 kids and he goes to overtake a car "travelling slowly just under 75kph" and then is so close to it he is unable to avoid a collision as it makes a right turn without indicating. Fuck him.

ok.
From a local news channel,
https://7news.com.au/news/school-bus-dr ... c-18249669
Munns told MailOnline he had been driving at 75km/h, with 29 children on board, and travelling behind a car for about 3km when it allegedly slowed and turned off the road without indicating.
Munn said the bus clipped the vehicle as he attempted to pass it.
This validates Giuffre’s claims the bus was full of children at the time of the crash, which WA Police Commissioner Kylie Whiteley previously told 7NEWS.com.au she was “not aware of”.
Munns told the outlet he checked on the 71-year-old driver, who told him that she was a carer, and said she had not been injured.
“It’s just all blown out of proportion and I know what happened, I didn’t even see (Giuffre) in the car,” Munns told MailOnline.
Munns said he and the driver exchanged numbers and — despite only needing to report accidents involving damage greater than $2000 to police, which he didn’t believe there was — he reported the incident the next day because of the bizarre circumstances.
Munns claims this is when the driver phoned him and mentioned there had been another person in the car who sustained a black eye.

What's your point. He is driving at the maximum speed for a bus and is that close to the vehicle in front he is unable to avoid a collision when it slows. Regardless of the failure to indicate from the car in front that is entirely his fault and is incredibly reckless driving for a guy with a bus load of kids.

Back from holiday in the land of the Black Mountain (Montenegro). Two fantastic episodes of turbulence on the flight home which I very much enjoyed as a break from the arse numbing boredom of the metal tube. My daughter very much enjoyed snapping her father sleeping with his mouth open. And then she showed me the picture of her brother in the same pose. Joke's on her, I have a picture of her as a toddler, sparked out in her car seat, mouth agape and missing her sock and shoe from one foot. Hah!
Less fun was the bloody M25 "50 mph because we're testing something or other " for the whole bloody stretch from the M27 to 1 mile before we came off. They were testing it when we drove to Stansted last bloody week, how much bloody data do they need to collect?

Just searched for best fruit and veges to consider planting at the moment. The top Google result was from AI, helpfully explaining that April and May in NZ is spring and early summer, and an ideal time to plant things like strawberries and pineapples.

We went down to the clubs outdoor course for the first time at the weekend, absolutely amazing! It's situated in a corner of a stately home in stunning countryside. The actual area the club has is half wooded, half kind of grassland with a couple of small rivers running through it in a valley. We have 28 targets set up around the area (including 3D animal type things), a practice area and a lovely wee clubhouse with BBQ facilities. Totally private for club members and we were the only ones there on a sunny afternoon. Blown away by it.mat the expat wrote: Thu Mar 27, 2025 4:19 amGood to hear!Slick wrote: Mon Mar 24, 2025 7:41 am

Don't ask people about their injury, unless you're really prepared to hear the uncensored story !!
I recently sustained an injury, that while it wasn't as serious for me as it could have been, for chuckles I've told a couple of people who inquired about the obnoxiously large bandage on my thumb, what actually happened .... cue much grimacing & them turning a funny shade of green .....

Fortunately the good people in Health service here did a great job on me, & I'll be back with two operational opposable thumbs in no time.

My thumb got caught & pinched/crushed, & it was, "Degloved" to use the delightfully descriptive medical term.

About 15 years ago I took the top of my left thumb off with an electric planer. The Dr in A&E asked if I had retrieved the missing part and I had to point out that there was probably a few hundred missing parts. Had the dressing changed yesterday & it all looks good so far, & confirms the positive stuff the surgeons said afterward, so, touch wood, all good.
It was one of those occasions where what's in your head is way, way worse than the reality. I got thru the whole thing without taking as much as a paracetamol for pain, when, for the first hour I was waiting for the Adrenalin to stop working, & to be in agony, & it never happened, it was just a dull throb.

Many travel guides suggest spending two or three weeks in Australia, but I only had eight days.
To make the most of my trip, I planned ahead and made sure to make time for my must-visit spots.
I got to have downtime and see highlights throughout Sydney, Melbourne, and the Gold Coast.

How long before you had a nail of some description again ?, they're saying 3-4 months before I get a mutant nail, & probably a year before it's half way normal. It's one of those things you take for granted, but those nails are a big part of how your fingers operate, they're not just ornamental !
I'm also discovering just how right-hand dominant I am, as my attempts at shaving left handed are crap, & I banged my thumb getting the cap off a beer earlier, & boy did that smart

Still, dressing changed again today & it all looks good.
The accident removed the part above the joint in my thumb, also removing most of the nail. The skin grafted from my abdomen means I can basically use my thumb normally though it has no sensation in it so I can't do anything delicate, like picking small things up from my desk.fishfoodie wrote: Fri Apr 25, 2025 9:20 pmOne of the things I was worried about, but not an issue in my case thankfully.Kiwias wrote: Fri Apr 25, 2025 5:43 amI did the same thing to my right thumb many years ago (yes, the doctor described it as "degloving" and they had to graft some skin from my lower abdomen to build it back up to about the original length.fishfoodie wrote: Thu Apr 24, 2025 7:49 pm Okay I'll stop teasing.

The nail will never be the same shape as the original nail and grows as a sort of lump that needs filing down every month first so it doesn't bump on things and second so it doesn't look too grotesque.
