All of what shereblue said.
I have undone any number of "lifetime protection trusts" once the clients actually had it properly explained to them, meaning not only do they pay a frankly obscene amount of money for a product that is not very good, they then have to pay my fees (rather less obscene, I assure you) to put themselves back to square one.
Estate planning. Wills, Trusts, POA etc
But...but it's got "lifetime" and "protection" and "trust" in the name!!Hal Jordan wrote: Sat Apr 19, 2025 8:26 am All of what shereblue said.

Sorry for your loss. Just been through all the shit that comes with dealing with a death (my auld man).vball wrote: Tue Apr 15, 2025 10:41 am My wife died after a sudden illness last week. We had no will.
In Scotland her assets mean that it is not categorised as a small estate so need some legal help.
Awaiting discussions with lawyer as to what this will mean. Hopefully just a letter (type of thing) which will cost me something which gives me rights to her stuff. This is not technical jargon.
Also awaiting call back from life insurance policy - did the online thing last week and had no confirmation/etc back from them. Called them today and they said somebody will call in next 48 hours.
Just as well I do not urgently need the money to arrange funeral type stuff.
It has been a bugger of week.
His estate was smaller but sorting the confirmation paperwork was a real pain. Got my Dads solicitor to sort it. Waiting on court sign off to distribute his estate.

In the life insurance policy saga ... Phoneix Life ...
Did their website death notification on 10 April. No reply from them by 15th so called them up and they said they would call back in 48 hours. Never did. Called them on 23 and they said they had sent me docs on 16. They also said it was a 10-15 day business day work around for all their work. When I left in 28th they had still not arrived.
On speaking to my lawyer re the no will work, she said Phoenix Life are dreadful.

Unfortunately in recent times most organisations have cut call centre/support staff and service levels have dropped everywhere. They just keep giving you dates down the road and then never meeting them.

Hope that Phoenix eventually get off their arse and help you.
