High Labour intensive jobs went to Japan, then Taiwan and Sth Korea, then China, then the rest of the world, we are talking a >50 year cycle here. This whole charade is just bullshit posturing hurting people and businesses globally for zero cause.

Quiet aside from the practicalities of that, Trump ignores actual national security threats, including those created by himself and his own team, while hysterically labelling everything else an emergency so he can use unlimited Presidential powers on whatever happens to annoy him personally at any given moment.

The walking tantrum has faced another court defeat. He's been ordered to unfreeze federal funds to the state of Maine after their governor stood up to him.
Although as we know, the courts telling his administration to do or stop doing something doesn't necessarily result in follow through.

It's just about building the evidence that the meddling judges must be brought to heel and added to his power as another arm of the Government.sockwithaticket wrote: Mon May 05, 2025 11:47 am The walking tantrum has faced another court defeat. Leaving aside the mechanics of actually doing it, a nice 100% reciprocal global tarriff on American made movies would be a nice touch!

US embassy demands obedience from Stockholm city:
“Bizarre”
“We will never sign this contract”, says S-mayor Jan Valeskog.
The Stockholm City Planning Office must not promote gender equality, diversity and inclusion. This is what the US Embassy demands in a letter, with a contract they expect the city to sign.
• “It's completely bizarre,” says Jan Valeskog (S), Mayor of Stockholm.
The embassy begins the letter with “Dear City Planning Office” and then explains that a new policy requires anyone from whom the US government purchases goods and services to sign the contract.
The Department of Public Works is expected to sign and return the contract within 10 business days.
• We absolutely will not do that, it goes against everything we stand for. They should withdraw these oddities," says Jan Valeskog.
It is the embassy that benefits from the City of Stockholm, not the other way around, he believes.
• If the US terminates its relationship with the City Planning Office, the embassy will find it difficult to obtain building permits if they want to rebuild, for example. “That's their headache, not ours,” says Valeskog.
According to the National Board of Housing, Building Permits are required for new construction, extensions and certain changes to the external appearance of buildings. The US embassy at Gärdet in Stockholm. Photo: Fredrik Sandberg/TT
DN has previously reported that the USA has demanded the same of Swedish companies that supply goods and services. At the time, the embassy replied in an email to DN that “U.S. missions are reviewing contracts and grants to ensure they comply with the White House's latest executive order”.
A good number of French large and not so large companies got something similar. The response was similar (and the request is simply illegal in France).Guy Smiley wrote: Wed May 07, 2025 5:07 am FFS...

Biden's first interview since leaving office.
Something I was wondering recently. Michael Moore has been very quiet, when current affairs gives him loads of material to work with. Health issues?

Latest in the long list of things he doesn't understand - ending the war would let them go to the Football world Cup in the USA.

Except of course qualifying has already started without them. So there's no way to get them in.

It's odd messaging from a human, or perhaps standard for Vance, but that is what fans normally do.

Yeah, it's so weird, given how welcoming most actual everyday Americans are.sturginho wrote: Wed May 07, 2025 12:45 pmWe want them to come. We want them to celebrate. We want them to watch the game. If I went to a World Cup in Australia, Qatar, Japan..., I think they'd all expect me to piss off once my trip was up. Frankly we'd expect people to piss off too. It's odd to say from Vance because most people are going to want to go home ,and not just because they'll have paid for a return ticket.sturginho wrote: Wed May 07, 2025 12:45 pmWe want them to come. I think he's making it clear that all fans from S America, Africa and Asia who turn up better have a return ticket and shouldn't think about trying to disappear into the countryside to find work.sturginho wrote: Wed May 07, 2025 12:45 pm

If you can afford a ticket to a world cup match then you are not the kind of immigrant that Vance is worried aboutSandstorm wrote: Wed May 07, 2025 1:14 pmI think he's making it clear that all fans from S America, Africa and Asia who turn up better have a return ticket and shouldn't think about trying to disappear into the countryside to find work.sturginho wrote: Wed May 07, 2025 12:45 pm

Judging by his recent comments, I wouldn't be so sure he's excluding Europeans from that category.Sandstorm wrote: Wed May 07, 2025 1:14 pmI think he's making it clear that all fans from S America, Africa and Asia who turn up better have a return ticket and shouldn't think about trying to disappear into the countryside to find work.sturginho wrote: Wed May 07, 2025 12:45 pm

When picking a place to go on holidays, I always put the insincere cünts who accept my money but really want to lock me in a cell to the top of my holiday list.
