The fact that we ended up with a 9 that can play wing but was playing fullback today at 10 about sums that game up. Exeter were pretty poor, a few tries at the end against a tired, depleted side puts a bit of gloss on it for them. Garside always looks good when I've seen him despite only being 4' 9".
I thought the game provided more positives for Saints than Exeter despite the score line- get some youngsters to experience first team rugby and they didn’t disgrace themselvesOxbow wrote: Sun May 11, 2025 4:01 pm The fact that we ended up with a 9 that can play wing but was playing fullback today at 10 about sums that game up. Spot on. Think that will be encouraging for Saints.duke wrote: Sun May 11, 2025 4:49 pmI thought the game provided more positives for Saints than Exeter despite the score line- get some youngsters to experience first team rugby and they didn’t disgrace themselvesOxbow wrote: Sun May 11, 2025 4:01 pm The fact that we ended up with a 9 that can play wing but was playing fullback today at 10 about sums that game up. Worth remembering that Newcastle completely dominated the game as well, we were lucky to be within a score. Very odd night.Kawazaki wrote: Sun May 11, 2025 1:40 pm Saracens losing away at Newcastle is really coming back to bite Saracens in the arse. Add in the points lost from the inconceivable home loss to Quins and Saracens would now have enough points to be favourites for a home semi.
Only have themselves to blame.
Sale play Bristol next week and we play Northampton’s second string (I assume), so there’s a very good chance of leapfrogging one of them going into the final day.

The only coach journos didn't link Tigers to.
Be interesting to see how he gets on.

Though their departures had already been announced
Fingers crossed that Saints come through unscathed against Saracens. Apart from Augustus who will be fit for the final next week, this is likely to be their starting team against Bordeaux

Yep. He's got a bizarre fan club though who think he can do no wrong. They consider him a miracle worker who operates on a pittance, develops loads of young West Country lads into top players and is fantastic at recruiting hidden gems.
He isn't.
So they found enough dosh to pay him off

Such a tough balance - playing a full noise Sarries is likely very good prep for next week, equally you can see it ending with 2/3 injuries which probably kills off the cup challenge. Wonder if there’ll be some pre-planned subs regardless of game situation.
In other news, the Red Bull Newcastle rumours are really gathering steam and it increasingly seems like a runner. Great news for the Geordies and very good news for English rugby. As I have said ad nauseum I think they’re an absolute bargain and have real potential for growth, with a £130m euromillions jackpot tonight maybe I’ll put in a bid after I win…

Things do seem to go better when Baxter's directly doing the coaching, but you have to question is capability as DoR given that they've had to get rid of both his head coach appointments, one after mere weeks in the job.SaintK wrote: Fri May 16, 2025 4:23 pmHepher gone nowSaintK wrote: Fri May 02, 2025 5:51 pmRob Hunter gone “by mutual agreement”Hal Jordan wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 2:42 pm

Lot of rugby still to run so can’t totally pre-judge, but Bristol haven’t looked like a playoff team for months now

Obvious statement but Sarries really need to beat Saints with a bonus point. That pushes Bristol out.

A non-BP win still puts Saracens ahead of Bristol on tiebreakers.Kawazaki wrote: Sat May 17, 2025 11:51 amPaddington Bear wrote: Fri May 16, 2025 11:21 pm Lot of rugby still to run so can’t totally pre-judge, but Bristol haven’t looked like a playoff team for months now

The truth is hard to handle
Pearce had a poor day. The knock on non try and the. Tackle in the air were poor, as was some of his behaviour when Sarries were fucking about terribly in the ruck. As it was it all balanced out for once. Sarries have nothing to complain about. He's a good ref generally so I'm guessing he had an off day, not helped by his TMO.
You do wonder what instructions the refs are given. Antony Woodthorpe in the Bath Tigers game had some novel interpretations of interference in the ruckBrazil wrote: Sat May 17, 2025 8:24 pmPearce had a poor day. The knock on non try and the. Tackle in the air should have been a penalty try and yellow.Brazil wrote: Sat May 17, 2025 8:24 pmPearce had a poor day. The knock on non try and the. The massive chase from Seabrook should have been a penalty try as well. He's tackled and caused to knock out on by a player on the floor attempting to tackle him.
Give a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
Still haven't seen the match. Hopefully catch up later this afternoon.
On the down side. Am hearing that Augustus is definitely out of the final next week. He had an enormous match against Leinster and will be missed.
Hopefuliy the four who came off injured yesterday are not too serious

I signed up for PR tv so I can catch up on highlights, is it normal that the player doesn't go into full screen?
Having watched the highlights, I don't know why one of the Saints' tries was chalked off, but the decision was evened up at the end - it definitely looked forward from the angels shown.

If it was Alex Cole’s’ attempt in the corner, they ruled that he lost control of the ball in the act of scoringTichtheid wrote: Sun May 18, 2025 11:16 am I signed up for PR tv so I can catch up on highlights, is it normal that the player doesn't go into full screen?

Yeah, the ref said that, it's just that there's nothing I can see in the laws about being in control of the ball - this has been a bit of a bugbear of mine for years https://passport.world.rugby/laws-of-th ... 8-scoring/
They didn't show many angles on the game highlights reel, mind.

Last run out at the Stoop for Danny Care today. Obviously he started off at Leeds, but he moved on pretty early and after 19 seasons(!) in a quartered jersey he's very firmly Mr. Quins. That sort of run at a single club is pretty unusual these days.
He's been at the heart of Quins greatest modern moments and I'd say a big asset to the league in general, scoring a bunch of great tries and some unexpected drop goals, buying into the ethos of a team that wants to entertain first and foremost. Sometimes to their detriment. He's also given fun moments like leading a season yellow card chart for a series of fairly innocuous offences (not being back 10, team yellow rather than foul play).
Playing this Exeter side should give Quins the opportunity for a perfect home send off.

I first saw him playing for England U19's in the early 2000's. He was as nippy as a Fox Terriier and was kicking goals then as well.sockwithaticket wrote: Sun May 18, 2025 12:11 pm Last run out at the Stoop for Danny Care today. Great servant for Quins and England. Hopefully he doesn't disappear as he comes over extremely well on TV
