We finished it last night as well, my wife was in floods of tears from start to finish - the main lad looks a little like our boy and it really hit home.
The first episode was so incredible that I'm finding it hard to judge the other 3 on their own merits to be honest.

One of those rare series that's well worth a re-watch, I reckon. But not just yet... still a bit raw.Slick wrote: Mon Mar 24, 2025 10:41 amWe finished it last night as well, my wife was in floods of tears from start to finish - the main lad looks a little like our boy and it really hit home.

Just reflecting on the production aspects... the single tracking shot; the transition from the hectic, crowded school episode to the more deliberate ep.3 two-hander... the whole thing's pure class imho.
If anyone's not seen it yet, The Virtues is another great Stephen Graham 4-part series.
Spoke to my sister today who is in probation. She thought the “interview” episode in the prison was incredibly unrealistic and spoilt it a bit for her. Loved the other bits thoughGumboot wrote: Mon Mar 24, 2025 7:45 pmOne of those rare series that's well worth a re-watch, I reckon. Given that season 2 is meant to be the last for Andor, it's started pretty slowly. It could do with a lot more rebellion/espionage and a lot less imperial domestic bliss and high society weddings. At this pace it feels like another 2 seasons are required to take us from Andor the new rebel to where he was in Rogue One.

I didn't make it past episode 3. Incredibly tedious.
I managed 1 episode. The camera work was terrible, every shot of a person is too close to their face and slightly out of focus.Gumboot wrote: Sat Apr 26, 2025 1:19 am I had high hopes for Dope Thief, which stars the rapper guy from Atlanta. Starts off OK, but I'm up to episode 7 of 8 and probably should've pulled the plug a lot sooner. Not even sure I can be bothered watching the last episode. 4/10 WNB
I don't mind too much if it lacks a bit of action - I guess (I've not yet started watching Season 2, I'll wait until there are a few more episodes available) there's still the tension knowing a lot of grim stuff is afoot behind those glamorous scenes.sockwithaticket wrote: Sat Apr 26, 2025 12:01 am Given that season 2 is meant to be the last for Andor, it's started pretty slowly. For me what's important is that it keeps the fine acting, "realistic" characters and scenarios, and that grimness that I enjoyed from Season 1 - much of which depends on never ever featuring (or even acknowledging the existence of) Jedis, the force, Siths and Skywalkers... the whole puerile Lucas' magic cowboys paraphernalia.

I also have no wish to see Lucas' space wizards, but the whole billing of Andor as a series is that the two seasons would take us from his induction into the rebellion up to the seasoned intelligence officer of Rogue One. I'm interested in that arc and the grey area of spycraft, yet it feels like ultimately they're going to fall short given that there are only 9 episodes left in which to realise it unless it all of a sudden the current leisurely pace goes into overdrive and we see different missions being undertaken and realised at least every two episodes.GuLi wrote: Sat Apr 26, 2025 7:21 amI don't mind too much if it lacks a bit of action - I guess (I've not yet started watching Season 2, I'll wait until there are a few more episodes available) there's still the tension knowing a lot of grim stuff is afoot behind those glamorous scenes.sockwithaticket wrote: Sat Apr 26, 2025 12:01 am Given that season 2 is meant to be the last for Andor, it's started pretty slowly. I have been enjoying Seth Rogan's "The Studio" on Apple+.
but E6 - The Pediatric Oncologist was just brilliant.

Indeed - I was surprised with how good it was (They had to make big changes for TV).C69 wrote: Mon Apr 28, 2025 1:15 pm I just watched the first 2 seasons of Halo which were very good...
Only to realise they have now canned the series. Cunts

Quality series. Season 3's a stand-out, for mine. Sinéad Keenan's been the gaffer for the past couple of seasons, btw.Biffer wrote: Wed May 21, 2025 7:35 pm This isn’t new / returning, but I’ve been watching Unforgotten recently. Brosnan is absolutely appalling in it, just doesn't fill his part at all. It's totally carried by Hardy and the magnificent Geoff Bell.GrahamWa wrote: Wed May 21, 2025 8:06 pm Another London related drugs family with Tom Hardy in the lead role with Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren as the Irish heads of family. It’s an excellent series. I’ve loved Nicola Walker as an actor since Spooks.Biffer wrote: Wed May 21, 2025 7:35 pm This isn’t new / returning, but I’ve been watching Unforgotten recently. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
I’d seen the change in gaffer happens, hadn’t realised they’re still making it though!Gumboot wrote: Wed May 21, 2025 7:51 pmQuality series. Season 3's a stand-out, for mine. I know it wasn't a great adaptation but it was a reasonable diversion to use up the subscription fee a bit. As a viewer what's the point in investing time in even starting a series when the platforms have so much tendency to cancel them part way through?

They create a vicious cycle - viewers burned by cancellations won't commit to something until it looks like it has some staying power, that hesitancy results in a relatively small initial audience that the service heads use as a basis for cancellation thereby pereptuating audience reluctance to invest their time in anything new.tabascoboy wrote: Sun May 25, 2025 7:49 pm I know it wasn't a great adaptation but it was a reasonable diversion to use up the subscription fee a bit. I was quite impressed by the show Warrior which is a historical action crime drama based on the Chinese mob in 19th century San Francisco, but then I found out that it was cancelled after season 3 with lots of plot still very much up in the air.
The Bombing of Pan Am 103, is head and shoulders above the earlier American effort with Colin Firth. Factual and concentrating on the human element and the sheer scale and professionalism of the investigation rather than pushing criticism and conspiracy theories.
Was going to ask your opinion as we're enjoying it. McCusker is an adviser so that adds an element of authenticity.Blackmac wrote: Thu May 29, 2025 9:46 pm The Bombing of Pan Am 103, is head and shoulders above the earlier American effort with Colin Firth. Yeah, thought it was pretty decent. The sheer level of awe and confusion when they arrived at the scene was very well done. It's easy picking holes in responses months after the fact and with the benefit of hindsight, but the reality of trying to piece together incidents in the heat of the moment is very difficult. It's bad enough trying to deal with a drunken stabbing on the Cowgate but Lockerbie was just an unimaginable level.Jock42 wrote: Thu May 29, 2025 9:59 pmWas going to ask your opinion as we're enjoying it. The stuff about Holmes was very good. I only ever worked with Holmes 2 which was an extraordinary bit of kit. Like every computer based system the quality of what you get out depends on the quality of what you put in and it can be very laborious work. The crestfallen look on McCusker's face when he was tasked with setting it up has been echoed by many Detectives since.
I'm good friends with the ex SOCO who photographed the majority of the victims prior to recovery and worked with another detective who spent 6 years on the enquiry and was part of the Malta team.
