He could be a bit prickly but he always stood up to be counted - he was genuinely angry about all the sexist nonsense that the female players have to put up with. It could be a bit misdirected, which is where he got bit of a reputation for being taciturn - he had a pop at a commentator who asked him about being the first to defend a singles olympic title, very pointedly saying Serena had done it first (she hadn't' - she won a singles and three doubles).

This definitely had an impact, but the funny thing is I think he is less appreciated in Scotland than in England. The fact is we have very few absolutely world class athletes and before I moved back up I kind of assumed he would be front and centre, but actually the reaction to him and his achievements are pretty muted.

If it hadn’t been for the hip injury. He would have won many more over the last five years, including a few more majors in all likelihood.

I don’t think the fact he came back and competed after getting his hip replaced is appreciated enough as the astonishing achievement it is.

Great result for Jacob Fearnley, beating Nick Kyrgios at the Oz Open.

Sounds like Kyrgios was struggling a bit with injury, but Fearnley beaten a high-ranking hometown favourite at his first Open event. A very, very impressive result.

She could maybe keep quiet about 5-star trips and yachts though, that's a bit tawdry. She only got booed because she was playing an Australian.

nah, that's the bit I liked! Aussies crowds will always get after people playing the home team, so getting after them a bit is fair game imo.

Pretty much everyone says that Murray would have won tons in any other era, the fact he won so much in competition with three candidates for GOAT speaks volumes, I think.
He also comes over as a really good guy, he got a lot of dung thrown at him from people who only heard half a quote

I think they will struggle to ever replicate the quality and excitement of that era. It wasn't just 4 great players but they were also consistently producing stunning matches when they faced each other, especially in Grand Slam finals. Todays final, as were a couple I watched last year were just meh.

Quite glad Alcatraz won today. Sinner got away with a very orchestrated ban timed so he didn’t miss any grand slams. Hope he doesn’t win any this year.

I think they will struggle to ever replicate the quality and excitement of that era. It wasn't just 4 great players but they were also consistently producing stunning matches when they faced each other, especially in Grand Slam finals. Todays final, as were a couple I watched last year were just meh.

Sinner and Alcaraz rivalry could be good for the next few years. Split the last six GS events between them.

I've signed up earlier in the week for the next ~2 months so I could watch the tennis, Le Mans this week and the TDF, then I'm cancelling again.

When BT launched what became TNT Sports, they gave it out free with a broadband contract. Then it became a fiver a month add on. It was obvious that it was a loss-leader ploy to get a foothold into the near-18 Billion pound UK broadband market, incidentally, when I looked up the worth of the market just now, I saw that it's projected to be worth almost double that by 2030.

I don't have one of those fire sticks, but I can see the attraction of them when the sports channels charge so much - TNT at £31/month is very similar to the Sky Sports price before discount. Premier is another £16 top whack so you could spend nearly eighty quid a month on sports, that's before the film and tv series channels from Netflix, Sky, Paramount, Apple, Disney, Amazon etc
