Budget desktop advice

Been asked to advise on where to get a cheap desktop PC, sadly the last desktop I bought was in 2006 and I’ve really not kept pace since then. What are the pitfalls I should look for , have read some thing about new windows imminent that will make all old peripherals defunct ?
My mate has keyboard , monitor etc so just a replacement box as his 10 year old pc has completely broken with blue screen of death & hard drive failure. The only rule I know is don’t bother fixing PC’s more than 5 years old.

It would be used for gaming , but doesn’t have to run new or high end stuff or highest resolution.

A quick bit of research found me this, so if this is a start yardstick I’m sure you kind helpful sorts on here can point me in the right direction.

Checked Which website and their recommendation for a desktop is Dell Inspiron 3030 S, this is quoted at £590 but apparently can be specced up a bit cheaper or the more expensive Lenovo ThinkCentre Neo 30s Gen 5 at £799.

As low as possible is the quick answer , but if it was
319 = don’t bother , already out of date and won’t run the new windows
599 = will run new windows but not latest games and will be obsolete in 2 years
799 = decent enough

Then the conversation would probs be 599 or 799. Hope that makes sense.
Person involved is REFRY-esque in terms of money avail

So on your link that 669.60 one at the bottom end of their gaming pcs list, is decent enough ? And this company also decent enough ?

Bit wary of which and their ‘pay us and get an award’ mantra.

company is good, the 669.00 will play games but dont expect it to be any good on newer titles, honestly if you want to play any games released in the last 4 or 5 years you need more than entry level and should be looking at over £1200.00, my new one in Czech Republic just delivered today, on its own with no peripherals cost me £4500, add in £1200.00 for a monitor and a lot of the other peripherals, no change from £6200.00
