Apparently they're in talks with US firm Silver Lake.
The question is, are All Blacks fans willing to keep their team alive by bending to investors from New York and Boston, who frankly don't care about rugby?
NZR selling out to Private Equity?
I'm not knowledgeable on finance but is this correct..... What is going on here is that private equity companies effectively "bail out" cash strapped rugby unions due to the financial effects of COVID but then they essentially get a controlling interest in the sport, the revenue streams etc.
So, the long term consequence is that international rugby will be like American sports leagues, all owned by investors with the money they generate going into private hands and the grassroots/amateur levels of the sport an entirely separate, unrelated entity? I recall that the people who bought (or were buying) an interest in the 6 Nations stated that they have no interest in the governance of the sport as a whole.

I believe that you need to look at the vultures buying into top flight football to see what the ultimate aim is: breakaway super league, fuck the pyramid, and here the pyramid includes the top flight teams of no consequence.
