About 10 minutes before Trump was claiming the non-certification was PROOF on Twitter and whilst McEnany was bigging it up with Sean Hannity.

Another day, another cunt lawsuit, this time against the elector for the state of Nevada. Apparently she is a veteran so that will go down well.

How easily the veneer of democracy is exposed as nigh on impotent when faced with someone who is willing to defy the unwritten rules and use the actual rulebook as toilet paper.

And why the fuck does it take three bloody months to get rid of a President?

That’s a benefit of the UK model permanent Civil Service, much maligned as it sometimes is. Changes of government can be accommodated relatively seamlessly. More difficult under a presidential system, of course, but the US does seem to make it unduly complicated - partly as a result of the protracted period for certification of election results.

Pennsylvania Supreme Court labels the actions of Team Trump misguided as they throw out the Trump legal challenge in a 5-2 decision, and it'd be worth making clear the 2 dissenters didn't agree with Trump, they just thought the decision was in essence already decided in federal court and the dispute is moot.

He is looking really unhinged today.

Looking at his tweets there doesn’t seem to be anywhere near the support he was getting a week ago, think even his supporters are boring of this

A good read on the efforts to disenfranchise democratic voting African Americans with historical background.

Hopefully voters from minorities, learn the lesson from 2016, & get out & vote in future elections in the same & greater numbers.

If you don't exercise your franchise; you can't complain if you end up with a racist pumpkin; telling the Police it's okay to shot minorities, without consequence; & how migrants are rapists & drug dealers.

It seems like the number of voices supporting trump are dwindling - but boy oh boy are the ones remaining getting louder!

It is almost like this moment in time is an educational moment showing the world how 1930's/40's Germany happened. The similarities between Hitler and trumps rhetoric is frightening. The use of straight up propaganda, patriotism and 'unite against a common enemy' is the same play book.

Even my boss who is a pretty well educated guy but grew up in Louisiana is talking about the apparent election steal and wondering how Biden wins when he couldn't get more than 20 people to a rally at a time. I made the mistake of offering up my opinion on why Biden choose to move away from the mass rallies in the time of a pandemic....didn't go down well. Strangely enough he is an active Christian, big hunter, pro guns constitution loving straight white man - which word for word is pretty much every twitter bio for a male trump support.

That may well be so, but it can only be necessary in a fundamentally racist setting.

I mean, it's odd to use this as a stick to beat minorities with: they're the ones dealing with racism, huges amounts of voter suppression, likely to be impacted more by poverty and COVID, etc in order to get out and vote. With so many things stacked up against them they absolutely have the right to fuck it all into a bin and walk away from the "democratic" process. It's the white people voting for the racist that are the problem.

I mean shit, "telling the Police it's okay to shoot minorities" if they don't vote? Come on - the protests made it clear what they thought. And then they had to vote for someone who was lukewarm on the protests. Woopie.

Of course.

The only way Texas gets held by the GOP, is by decades of disenfranchising minorities; the difference this year in Arizona, was in large part due to activists getting out the Latino vote; which had been similarly suppressed, with harassment by scum like Arpaio

No - he will concede within a week I reckon.
He will never concede...just like he has committed to never publicly apologise for anything EVER.
The moment he grovels his whole ego is shattered.

Even if he could be somehow forced into making a concession speech by his handlers, it will quickly devolve again and he will qualify every statement with something ambiguous that would contradict the very statement right before it.

Trump is playing a long game to stay relevant and extract more funds out of his supporters' pockets while he is in the news.
  • The certification deadline for some states is only 8 December, so he'll keep going until then
  • When that day comes and goes, he'll appeal to faithless electors, the media will go crazy and he'll stay in the news cycle a while still
  • And when that is done, he'll keep his base all frothed up and energised for the Georgia Senate run-offs
He'll keep kicking and screaming until 20 January, and hopefully on 21 January he'll be buried under a mountain of indictments.
If we are lucky his legal issues will dominate the conservative media ecosystem which will allow the new Biden administration to go about their business.

It seems that the right wing press are pinning their hopes on invalidating enough of the electoral college votes to force the twelfth amendment so that it goes to a vote in Congress. Which, with the way that the votes are set up, would give Trump his second term.

So get involved in nominating the candidate. And btw, the candidate wasn't the candidate until the primaries hit Carolina and a certain group voted in huge numbers for Biden

Wouldn't this mean that they committed a criminal offence by swearing the certification in the first place ?

Are they really prepared to face the consequence of that ? :problem:

Well, beside the fact that there's no actual mechanism for them to withdraw the certification, they're claiming bullying, coercion, and poor legal advice.

Hold on.

Are we allowed to say that now?

Didn't we decide that Trump supporters are rational and intelligent people who happen to see that Biden is just as corrupt, just as prone to nepotism but older and more infirm with the certainty that he won't last beyond the first few months of his Presidency, leaving Harris and the squad in charge and free to implement a socialist agenda and take away their guns?

Has a demonic curse descended on Republican hair? Rudy's hair appears to be melting off his head, Trump's hair has mysteriously morphed from a lustrous lion into a silver fox, and flies find Mike Pence's cupcake frosting look sexually arousing. WTF is going on? :???:

As funny as Rudy's Jean-Baptiste Emmanuel Zorg impression is, and as mad as Trump is, the fact is that we're still witnessing an attempted coup and the Republican Party is entirely complicit in it by its failure to even vaguely harrumph at proceedings.

Very true.

There's a serious point behind my flippancy here; namely that people who one would normally see as intelligent are apparently being sucked into the notion that Trump wasn't a bad President. I'm remembering statements on here where Trump's handling of the Pandemic was deemed to be better than most Western Governments.

My personal opinion is that those kinds of comments usually come from people who are obsessed with 'big government' being the root of all ills. They believe the economic damage done by the pandemic is due to government lockdowns or other restrictions, rather than the damage being due to the pandemic. Some of them seem to genuinely think that if we hadn't put travel restrictions, lockdowns etc in place, the pubs would still be full, flights would still be depositing the same number of tourists doing exactly what they did in previous years, etc. It's such an incredible disconnect.

Now, I don't for a second claim that some government action has damaged economies more than other actions, but every policy maker was feeling in the dark at the start of this. It seems to me the countries that have done the least damage to their economy are the ones who adopted the 'go hard, go early' approach, but that's a more general impression from the economy numbers etc and we'll see how that pans out in the longer term. the unfortunate thing is that politics everywhere now is so bound by the need to be seen as strong and able to get it right first time, that the no one seems willing or able to change their approach to imitate the more successful policies from earlier in the pandemic.

I dunno. UK has "gone hard, gone early" now to try to get things back to a better situation before Xmas. But that seems to be a terrible idea in 1/3 of the population's minds too.

Nah, they didn't really. If we'd done that we would have gone into pretty sever restrictions in early September.
