CNN calling it what it is - insurrection, attempted coup.

They will restart the session today if there's any way they can, will Ted Cruz and the other loonies keep objecting?

GOP just referred to as a nihilistic death cult on CNN

Yeah, very interesting to see what Cruz and his band of cunts do now. They have a way out now - we don’t want any more violence-, you would expect them to take it...

Pence has unfollowed Trump onTwitter and changed the background on his own account to a picture of Biden and Harris.

I mean, the cunt has been enabling Trump for 4 years but that’s quite a statement

Cori Bush, a Democrat congresswoman from Missouri, has said she will introduce a resolution calling for the expulsion of Republican members who have “incited this domestic terror attack through their attempts to overturn the election.” and Ilhan Omar, the Democrat congresswoman from Minnesota, is drawing up articles of impeachment for Trump:

“Donald J. Trump should be impeached by the House of Representatives & removed from office by the United States Senate. We can’t allow him to remain in office, it’s a matter of preserving our Republic and we need to fulfill our oath.”

To be fair to Mitch McConnell, he too has decided to defend the constitution rather than Trump. He tore Cruz and his band of cunts a new one before the session was interrupted:

"But my colleagues, nothing before us proves illegality anywhere near the massive scale — the massive scale — that would have tipped the entire election. Nor can public doubt alone justify a radical break, when the doubt itself was incited without any evidence. The constitution gives us here in Congress a limited role. We cannot simply declare ourselves a national board of elections on steroids.

The voters, the courts and the states have all spoken. They’ve all spoken. If we overrule them, it would damage our republic forever.

This election actually was not unusually close. Just in recent history, 1976, 2000, and 2004 were all closer than this one. The electoral college margin is almost identical to what it was in 2016. If this election were overturned by mere allegations from the losing side, our democracy would enter a death spiral. We’d never see the whole nation accept an election again. Every four years would be a scramble for power at any cost. The electoral college, which most of us on this side have been defending for years, would cease to exist, leaving many of our states with no real say at all in choosing a president. The effects would go even beyond the elections themselves."

Fuck McConnell and Pence. They're finding out just what (Godwin alert!) the industrialists who aligned with Hitler to keep the Communists out of their factories found out. He may be of use to you for a while, but at some point you realise you hitched your wagon to a lunatic and he'll burn you and the country in a second if you get in his way.

Interestingly, it was Pence and not Trump who approved the deployment of the National Guard, contrary to the earlier lies from Trump's press secretary that he had done so.

The acting secretary of defense, Christopher Miller, said in a statement that he discussed the deployment of National Guard troops to the Capitol with Mike Pence, not Donald Trump.

“Chairman Milley and I just spoke separately with the Vice President and with Speaker Pelosi, Leader McConnell, Senator Schumer and Representative Hoyer about the situation at the U.S. Capitol,” Miller said in the statement.

“We have fully activated the D.C. National Guard to assist federal and local law enforcement as they work to peacefully address the situation. We are prepared to provide additional support as necessary and appropriate as requested by local authorities.”

Absolutely !

If any member votes against confirming the properly certified & in what 50 odd court cases confirmed results; there should be immediate votes to exclude these members for breaking their oath of office.

Strictly speaking neither Pence nor Trump are needed to deploy the DC guard. By law, the decision resides solely with the Secretary of Defense.

However, it sounds like even if the 25th hasn't actually been invoked, it's been virtually invoked.

The level of delusion and lack of self awareness amongst American pundits is something to behold.

I guess they have to keep up this pretence of America being "the shining city on the hill" but it is not and probably never has been a model democracy or society and very few people actually buy into this mythology any more.
