By my rough estimations that puts the UK at no.3 behind Bahrain and Israel which is not bad and should be seriously ramping up this week - 2 million per week needs to be the mimium.

Whilst you can argue about the different stats used, and there is an issue there, to suggest either of the above are in any way political is really stretching the point incredibly thin! The tweet is a statement of facts! The response to the question from Guru-Murthy is equally based on the data at the time and of course she lives and works in Scotland and at that point she was correct. If these are the examples of politicalised statements that you are complaining about then you need to take a breath!tc27 wrote: Mon Jan 11, 2021 10:06 amdpedin wrote: Mon Jan 11, 2021 9:24 amExamples?Slick wrote: Mon Jan 11, 2021 8:59 am
I think I've already said it, but her overt politicisation of many of her statements have turned people off from her message. As has her thirst for self promotion.
I know you are not hugely into balance, but for a bit of it, I think Jason Leitch has been excellent and got his tone spot on and, in terms of communucation at least, the FM has been good.
Of course using the same method of recording covid 19 deaths as the rest of the UK revealed this not to be the case..people were dying throughout this period. Infact the overall mortality rate in Scotland compare badly to most other areas of the world with a similar population.Krishnan Guru-Murthy: When it comes to infections and deaths: is Scotland doing better than the rest of the United Kingdom, or better than England, proportionally?
Devi Sridhar: Well, I guess I would compare Scotland to the rest of the world, and say right now I feel quite lucky to be here, because our testing positivity - that’s the number of positive cases to the number of total people you test - is very low. It’s under 1%, under today 0.5%, where many places in the world are around 10-20%. And also deaths. We’ve had 15 days with one death.
I honestly don't know where the venom about her comes from! She is an American who studied in Florida and Oxford before getting her role in Edinburgh, She is a Rhodes scholar. She sits on groups which feed into both SAGE and the Scottish Government. She is an expert in public health. What is it about an American, Scottish based, Rhodes Scholar, female, ethnic Indian, Public Health Professor that you have a problem with?
My understanding is that there won't be sufficient supply for 2 million per week till next week, but that is the targettc27 wrote: Mon Jan 11, 2021 10:16 am 2 million had at least one shot by Friday.

I have no problem with her other than she has decided to become a political commentator so its entirely valid to scrutinise and criticise her statements. Not sure who your last paragraph was aimed at?
CMO's of all four nations and other experts have provided analysis and commentary without crossing this line. You have to question the judgement and sincerity of someone who choses to use their status to bolster one side in a divisive constitutional debate.
Sensible from Johnson
The Evening Standard has a good exclusive today. It reports that Boris Johnson went for a cycle ride around the Olympic Park on Sunday, seven miles from Downing Street.
Sophia Sleigh seems to have got the story in the way some of the best scoops happen - by being in the right place at the right time.
But!!We’re going to keep the rules under constant review. Where we have to tighten them, we will. But we have rules in place already which, if they are properly followed, we believe can make a huge, huge difference ...
And of course, if we feel that things are not being properly observed, then we may have to do more. But far, far better for people to obey the rules that we have simply to promulgate new rules.

The tweet is her comment in July of the state of play in Scotland - she lives in Scotland and is perfectly entitled to reflect on state of play in country in which she lives. Which bit of the tweet is 'political'?
The second example was an answer to a question where she was asked directly to comment on comparisons between Scotland v rest of UK and refused, deflecting question to a broader comparison with rest of world, again based on data available is accurate. She probably did this to avoid exactly the type of Scotland v England/UK commentary you accuse her of. Again which bit of her response is 'political'?
I am honestly at a loss as to how you find either of the above examples you provide as examples of 'political commentary' and of her using their status to bolster divide constitutional debate. To me it seems more like you are reading too much into this and looking for an angle that in both your examples just doesn't exist!

I've found out more about if now. At first glance the UK guidance says you can travel for exercise and again at first glance there's no definition of local. After Googling further I was taken aback to see that local means "your village, town or party of a city" so I've been happily breaking the rules every few days. HMG would do away with a lot of problems if they made this clearer. Basically Derbyshire Police were in the right.

How can we get numbers down if people keep returning from trips abroad to COVID hotspots like Dubai? This is a reserved power to U.K. govt. They are undermining all local efforts to suppress bc they’re not putting in place any real travel restrictions.
Here is the problem -> UK govt has no strategy beyond locking down.

I see Astrazeneca has formally applied for conditional approval of its vaccine in the EU.
Guess from a UK perspective it might further bottleneck deliveries if the initial European orders are higher priority than both parties subsequent orders? Will be very interesting in hindsight to see how the delivery priorities were agreed.

The school meal thing is shocking. Vaccine delivery is definitely ramping up in the UK - now 2.68 million doses delivered, putting the UK 3rd overall and 4th per capita. Wales and Scotland a bit worrying though - were England and NI both have a noticeable hockey stick effect starting last week, Wales and Scotland don't
Is that it! You really must have very, very thin skin if these are the best examples of how 'political' she is and feel more than justified in calling her a twat and defend it. Dubai is an issue, travel can only be stopped by UK Gov and actions were taken yesterday/today by SG and UK Gov. UK Gov has no strategy beyond lock down, if there is one please share. England is much more urbanised - so easier to distribute the vaccine to more of the population (also made it far easier for the virus to spread).
