Hard to say what the brits can do to see the turnaround they need. I'm sure all their engineers have plans for the next three weeks or so, but man, they just got it all wrong in what they've thrown up.
It's not a good look with both boats floundering around now.

Dead in the water with 5.5km lead. Lol
This was on Stuff’s online reporting:Kiwias wrote: Sun Dec 20, 2020 3:04 am The commentator just asked Ben Ainslie if he was considering calling "Code Zero". Can someone enlighten me?
will someone finally use a Code Zero??? That's the giant 200 sqm foresail
Or with Ainslie it could just mean “ram the nearest boat”.
Not really early days any more. Hull design done, and Brits have used their allocation of foils I believe.Mr Bungle wrote: Sun Dec 20, 2020 2:21 am How untidy can the Brits get? Early days in the scheme of the final AC, but a bit of a shambles.
Software and sail updates is what they are left with, although I'm sure they can tweak hull shapes and trim tabs etc.
Steep hill for them. But I think Luna Rossa could get more competitive. They seem really close to the Yanks and Kiwi's, so a couple of tweaks in the right direction and who knows.
Must say that, while foiling is great to watch, I agree with a lot of this article.
A growing number of leaders in the sailing world are calling for the America's Cup to rid itself of its current foiling boats and return to a more traditional form.
The last three competitions for the America's Cup have been contested by boats with foils, which has both increased the pace and cost of racing. Some sailing experts believe these have been experiments that have gone on long enough and a return to more traditional boats will provide a better spectacle and quality of competition.
New York Yacht Club commodore Chris Culver told the Sailing World website last month that if American Magic win this year's Cup they would "put the boat back into the water".
"It will be somewhere between 80 and 100 feet in length. It will be a displacement monohull that is good for traditional match racing. You need to be able to see the boats from a distance, and the boats need to be majestic."
Culver's opinion has now been backed by Italian sailing legend Riccardo Bonadeo who told the La Stampa website on Tuesday that foiling boats were taking the sport too far away from its definitions.
"There must be technological evolution, but on boats that sail. I share the New York Yacht Club's idea of new 80-100 displacement hulls for the next edition," Bonadeo said.
"With the AC75 we have entered another dimension, where aerodynamics are more important than hydrodynamics.
"In fact, we speak of flight, not navigation. And the seafaring skills of the crew are no longer enhanced, but other characteristics are required of the latter. "
Bonadeo, the former commodore of the Costa Smeralda Yacht Club and president of the Azzurra campaigns in 1983 and 1987, also echoed the opinion of his skipper from those campaigns, Cino Ricci.
"I don't see the sails changing, I don't see the men moving together on board to carry out the intuitions of the tactician and the helmsman," Ricci told La Stampa in a separate interview last week.

Kicks off again today, sans Kiwi's. Has Sir Ben actually got a better boat in the lights? If the breeze stays up can he win it?
Or are the Yanks that tick above the others??
Enjoy. I'll be watching in perfect prime time for me.

Doubt anyone other than I would be watching it from the UK tbh. Think I’ll mostly stick to replays myself until the main event.Enzedder wrote: Thu Jan 14, 2021 4:42 pmRaces start at 3pm NZ time so 2am in the UKSnooze wrote: Thu Jan 14, 2021 4:28 pm Kicks off again today, sans Kiwi's. Great first up win to Ineos Team UK, lovely upset of America Magic. Luna Rossa vs Ineos in 20 mins
Broken Britain or...???
Ineos Team UK's sensational comeback on day one of the Prada Cup has taken a sour turn - with another challenger reportedly protesting the British boat over a design technicality.
Sir Ben Ainslie's outfit stunned the America's Cup field on Friday during the first day's action by completing a staggering turnaround to bank two shock wins - topping pre-regatta favourites American Magic by a comprehensive 1m 20s, before rounding out a perfect day with a 28-second win over Italian syndicate Luna Rossa.
Less than a month ago Ineos performed disastrously in the America's Cup World Series, failing to win a race and struggling to stay on their foils in light breeze.
Yachting website Live Sail Die is reporting that Luna Rossa are protesting the Brits "for having their outhaul penetrating the sail skin on their main fairing". According to the report, this means a hole in their mainsail that is considered illegal - and is separate to earlier protests launched by the Italians "regarding backstays, substitute weights, and stickers".
The outhaul adjustment helps to control the shape of the mainsail and is restricted by complex America's Cup rules.
The Herald understands Ineos have recently fitted a new outhaul adjustment and that they may have tried to maximise the movement. It is believed it would be considered only a "minor infringement".
Live Sail Die reported that the rule was broken with Ineos' new outhaul, but there is no penalty yet as the part was passed at measurement. The website noted, however, that Ineos need to come up with a solution to fix the issue before their race tomorrow.
Italian websites La Stampa and LiveMedia24 also reported Team UK's break with the competition's regulations and that we will see a change on the Brittania boat in Saturday's racing.
"The rules of the America's Cup in this regard are very clear and precise: this modification is not allowed," LiveMedia24 reported overnight.
The report stated that Luna Rossa's protest "was accepted by the jury without reservation; from the next race Ineos Team UK

Huge turn around, you have to wonder how the yanks respond, they had overall probably the best looking boat and crew work through that pre christmas gig.
Light winds make the racing in these dull as fuck though. Terrific if they're flying around on the foils but bobbing around in the Waitemata might as well be watching paint dry.

I think they've made the lower wind limit too low - 6kts I believe. Should be 8 or above. I've been out racing all over those waters and it can be really tough picking shifts. But when boats have a speed differential of 2-3 knots (in wind vs not) then it's manageable. But when there's a difference of 30+knts there's too much luck involved.Ymx wrote: Sat Jan 16, 2021 7:29 am Yeah I just watched the replay. Found myself forwarding 20 mins at a time.
Anyone clear on what this code zero is all about? Seems to be an option which no one is taking.Snooze wrote: Sat Jan 16, 2021 4:21 pmI think they've made the lower wind limit too low - 6kts I believe. Should be 8 or above. A Code Zero is the largest of foresails. Technically it moves from a Jib (foresail that does not come past the mast) to a Genoa (foresail that goes beyond the mast). They are also generally made of very light material as only used in light airs. But they get over powered very easily if wind freshens. Risky for these guys because when they are doing 30 knots the apparent wind can be 40 knots and those sails aren't made for that.

Cant see video, sounds like everyone has had to chuck everything into it to keep it off the bottom. According to stuff it's safe for now but it was submarining for a while. Hopefully it's not a huge deal other than replacing everything in the hull.
