well fucking hell, this a sad apology for a thread and this post above is definitely libellous.

asmo, as the publisher, i'm suing you

for uk chaps, especially around london, boxcar brewery are knocking it out of the park at the moment

hope you're all well
I'll give them a look.

I got the lockdown box from Brew By Numbers last week. £54 for 24 beers. That's pretty good value. The Pilsner is unexceptional but all the others are very good, especially the Imperial Gose.
I'll look out for it

The fleeting sun from boxcar is as good as I've tasted
Yep, that one and Massless Fields are both bloody good beers
I buy them from here, but then I get a "friends and family" discount as it's run by a mate of my son

Any US based posters here? Funny on the hate of the stouts, I am that way towards IPAs...f@ck em...

I get some beers from Tavour (which seems a little like beerseeker) from craft breweries, and this rare beer club where I get 4 approx 750ml every 3 months.

If you like stouts and are in the US, some of the ones I have tried recently that you may like if you like imperials and what not:

Stripes and Genius Kitchen - two beers from Aslin Beer Company near me in the Washington, DC area.... both are 15 ABV
Attempted Murder 2 - from Bombastic Brewing out of Idaho....nice vanilla and cinnamon
KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge - 11ABV from Founders from Michigan...if the description repulses you, then avoid, if you like it, get it

I'm an IPA DIPA and TIPA fan though tend to find 10% ABV at the top end of my range! Always have the odd stout and porter in the beer store but tend to struggle with the higher ABV's unless I'm sharing the can or bottle. Also I find some of the more esoteric confections a bit too sweet. Though my son gave me a Black Forest Gateau stout which tasted exactly what it said on the label with a lovely bit of sharpness from the cherries

I’m gamely supporting the local microbreweries but over the last few days, for some reason, I’m desperate for a pint at one of my favourite Proper Pubs. Symptom of SADS maybe. I don’t know, but it’s getting worse.

all styles of ipas? there's quite a variance and a lot gets shovelled into the ipa bracket because it's a buzz word. but the difference between a west coast ipa, neipa, british, lactose or bretted is huge

Yeah. I've been fine up until now but the last couple of weeks I've been very restless about getting a pint of ale from the pub round the corner - one of the few real ale pubs in Edinburgh. Actually having daydreams about my first sup.

How many microbreweries will be left at the end of this lockdown?
If you had no access to a bottling plant, can't see some of the smaller ones being able to survive on takeaway pins alone..
I love watching little children running and screaming, playing hide and seek in the playground.
They don't know I'm using blanks..

Lactose is where they add unfermented milk sugar. It makes the beer much smoother in the mouth and is sometimes called milkshake ipas. Often involves fruit. I personally hate them on the whole, but some people love them.

Bretted (or brett) ipas are made with brettanyonces, a type of yeast more often found in lambic and Flanders red style beers. Tastes a bit 'funky'. Again, a bit of a marmite beer, although I've had a few decent ones

Never fully understood added fruit in an IPA as it tends to over shadow the hop flavours which I always thought what IPA's were all about? Lactose in a low ABV "milk" or "breakfast" stout is fine and as you say does the smooth mouthfeel thing and works well with the dark malts

Slowly getting there with the bretted pales though still find some a bit too "farmyardy" for me. Enjoying some of the Wildbeer Co examples at the moment

I agree. You can get plenty fruit flavour just from the hops you use.

Indeed. Can't remember who made it but I once had a lemon milkshake ipa where the predominant hop was citra. It was basically undrinkable.

Kay's is my absolute favourite.

Bow Bar used to be much better but is still OK and in that area Sandy Bells has always poured a very good pint.

The Sheep Heid is another that used to be better but is still pretty decent.

Guildford Arms has been excellent and shite, seems to depend on if the staff can be arsed.

Christ yes. Even as a fan of most ipas, that's the sign of a poorly chosen offering, probably ordered by someone who knows nothing about beer but has realised he can make some £££ out of it.

Are there any places like that left nowadays?

Better chance of me storming the Capitol than me drinking an IPA...just always hated them...and I do try them here and there just in case, but no.

Of course, I will drink a smoothie sour, cider, lagers, etc...but IPAs
I like an IPA but my heart sinks a little when going to a craft beer bar with 60 different beers on tap and finding that all of them are hoppy IPAs.
Christ yes. Even as a fan of most ipas, that's the sign of a poorly chosen offering, probably ordered by someone who knows nothing about beer but has realised he can make some £££ out of it.

Are there any places like that left nowadays?
Yes, sadly.

Plenty of craft beers are made by and for people who don't actually like beer.

I expect to be able to taste all the core ingredients in beer - malt, hops, water, alcohol. There are too many hop soup and fruit juice flavoured beers out there, although TBF the number is decreasing massively as the brewers learn about balance.

Also, if your Chocolate Vanilla Cherry trifle stout tastes mostly of Chocolate, Vanilla & Cherry then why didn't you just east a trifle.
