Fine, active wasn't a useful word to throw in there because active or passive, tilting a player in a tackle like that is illegal and will be sanctioned. Or would if anyone still did it. but players seem to have managed to modify their behaviour on this.
So now that we've established that a player can "tilt" over by his own weight and forces of nature , how would you defend against a player that was diving for the line without fear of being sanctioned? Or are you supposed to just let him score.

Pick him up, drive forward and dump him on his arse. You can’t tilt a player

If he's diving he's already horizontal with his arse pointing to the sky. I'd like to see you try pick him up, turn him over and dump him on his arse.

Sorry, sorry, I know, it's heresy to suggest that if there's no legal way to stop someone who's a split second away from scoring then maybe letting them score is the only thing to do. Much like if players have been beaten by the jackal...

We're talking about rugby here not the NFL, right? Perhaps we should create a law that when some fat forward is faster at falling over on a ruck gets to walk to the try line unhindered ,spike the ball and do a little dance for five points. Jeez, leave it to the fokon English to find a way for their team to win something.

Leave it to the Saffers to decide that foul play is fine when they think it's fine...

Seriously, I'm just engaging with the hypothetical you presented: a situation where it's impossible to stop a player scoring with a legal action. If it's impossible, don't do it.

But realistically, everyone following this conversation knows that the idea that a player who's already diving for the line being tackled is not going to provoke a call of a tip tackle because the tackler isn't the one who lifted or tipped the tackled player. So basically it's a fucking stupid premise not grounded in reality.

But it was a fun exercise nonetheless.

Aaaanywayyys, coming back to the May issue, if you English pansies looked past your victim mentality perhaps you would realize that what May did was dangerous and could potentially have left the Italian defender seriously injured.

That's weird. You're quoting... who, exactly? Probably not me. Given I said the only reason it was causing argument is because he jumped more vertically than horizontally.

Unless you're dumb enough to take the jokes seriously, even when I used the old winky-face for the hard of understanding.

You're kidding right? like before when you used the old winkly-face? I mean, your fellow countrymen did have a whole conversation about it.

I've never seen or heard of a person jumping horizontally and unless his mom foked a jackrabbit* there's no way he could dive vertically.

*I dont think it's physically possible even for a bastard hybrid jackrabbit.

What if May had dived so forcibly... he went under-ground... popping above ground again only upon reaching the tryline...

Would the try be allowed?

Are there any laws against burrowing? Or more specifically.. burrowing Englishman?

A dive often requires you to jump. Otherwise it's just a collapse.

Go look at any number of finishes in the corner where players are trying to avoid going into touch and have put their feet in the air, and tell me they're not also jumping

I don't know but i wouldn't want to burrow an Englishman, they might just want a whole continent as repayment.

I never took it up with anyone, I just left it there for someone to try on. Kinda like cinderella's glass slipper.

Which one of those ends with the player landing off his feet...?

Brian Habana must have been amazing to do this without jumping

A dive! Where, um, he avoids a potential tackler by leaping into the air

No? I've made it pretty clear that May's thing was weird and probably exceptional.

I'm suggesting your insistence that players don't leap or jump when trying to dodge tacklers in the air and diving to score doesn't hold up. Which, well, it doesn't.

Burrowing would be a double movement, law 14.7.

He burrowed under the tackler, therefore not held
