Hugo wrote: Tue Feb 16, 2021 4:13 am There was one involving Sarries in the old Tetley Bitter Cup years ago down in the west country, Lydney I think it was.

Paddy Johns was attacked if my memory serves me correctly. I think a fight by the touchline spilled over to the stands and one of the Lydney fans got a punch in.
Lydney was a horrible place to play rugby. We were spat at by supporters on one occasion

I played there in the early 90s in the Tetley Cup or whatever it was called. Grim.

We lost.

Personal one:

Back in 2004 I was at the Scarlets v BO HEC 1/4 at Stradey. Was there with the (female) president of AUPA BO, the Biarritz supporters club, who was a friend of mine. There were only about 20 of us supporting BO of which 10 were the Basque band who played throughout the game.

Scarlets got bummed. At the final whistle, some of the Scarlets fans (who'd been pretty unpleasant all game) started throwing their beer glasses at the band (plastic, but with content). Stupidly, I shouted at them to cut it out and to f**k off to wendyball if they wanted to behave like that. It got nasty and Christine and I had to jump on to the pitch, hoping the stewards would help but they did f**k all and no help came from any Scarlets "fans" either. 3 of the morons pursued us and I found myself having to be brave (not my forte) and ended up in a scrap in the mud with the 3. I'd have taken a pasting (stewards still doing f**k all) except the BO players were in the centre celebrating and must have noticed that Christine was in trouble. Hooker Jean-Michel Gonzalez (not a man to be messed with) came charging over at which point the 3 cretins ran off.
