So, 'independent' Russian activist Alex Navalny has released a video where he claims he tricked an FSB agent into admitting FSB poisoned him:

https://www.bellingcat.com/news/uk-and- ... o-navalny/

What are your thoughts?

If there is 1 very strong conclusion we can make- Bellingcat is not an independent investigative journalism team. It's the media wing of MI6. Do they really expect us to believe that a few journalists can find out the mobile data of FSB agents?

Hmm yes you'd definitely expect the media wing of the MI6 to be exposing UK arms deals, that's a normal thing to be happening

It's really rather strange, isn't it? Not sure what makes someone stan so much for Russia & Putin in 2020.

Quite right, how on earth could they get the mobile numbers of a sophisticated spy network! Next they’ll be claiming FSB agents take day trips to see interesting church spires

True. But you'd expect MI6 to be leaking UK arms deals to anyone and everyone's secret services...

I guess you haven't seen the latest UK Government document leak then?
The UK FCO projects were carried out covertly, and in partnership with purportedly independent, high-profile online media outfits including Bellingcat, Meduza, and the Pussy Riot-founded Mediazona. Bellingcat’s participation apparently included a UK FCO intervention in North Macedonia’s 2019 elections on behalf of the pro-NATO candidate.

Starting to change your mind now?

Bellingcat is an arm of the UK Government.

Ah yes an article pinning the blame on UK media, Bellingcat (which has exposed Russian wrongdoing), Meduza (which tags itself as 'the Real Russia Today'), and Mediazona, funded by Pussy Riot.

Definitely nothing linking all those groups that might spur a disinformation campaign. And I'm sure Maxy boy there is keen to tell us all the truth about China and the Uighurs, right? Say, what could a far-left journo possibly have to gain from boosting <checks notes> China and Russia? It can't just be the cash Blumenthal's gotten from boosting Russia Today (et al) on mainstream US TV, can it?

Nah, I'm sure they're on the level :wtf: Good source, much credibility, wow!

On China:

On Max himself, a good thread:

Not sure why you've such a hard-on for obvious grifters, but hey, as long as they're pro-Russia amirite?

I agree. That's the job of MI6's top officials to foreign powers.

It's great fun seeing people do things like this:
New York Review of Books wrote: Another prominent pro-Assad figure is Max Blumenthal. In 2012, he resigned from his position as a reporter for the English-language website for the pro-Hezbollah Al-Akhbar newspaper in Beirut, for which he had written frequently about the plight of Palestinian refugees. In an open letter, he opposed to the paper’s pro-Assad views and its featuring of content by Sharmine Narwani and a writer named Amal Saad-Ghorayeb, whose work he called “malevolent propaganda.” In September 2013, Blumenthal went to Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan on assignment for The Nation. He strongly opposed US intervention against Assad, but he wrote on Twitter that “100% of dozens I spoke to in Zaatari today want US intervention in Syria.”

But then, in December 2015, as Russia was relentlessly bombing Syria, and doctors and civilians were being killed in Aleppo by barrel bombs, Blumenthal went to Moscow on a junket to celebrate RT’s tenth anniversary. We don’t know what happened during that visit, but afterward, Blumenthal’s views completely flipped. He has attacked not only the White Helmets* but also Bana al-Abed, a nine-year-old girl who lived in rebel-held Aleppo and ran a Twitter account with her mother. The man who once wrote an essay called “The Right to Resist is Universal,” and attacked Narwani as an “Assad apologist,” now accuses anti-Assad Syrians of belonging to al-Qaeda and has claimed that the White Helmets were affiliated with the Islamist group.

More here about Max Blumenthal’s pro-Assad, pro-Putin “journalism”

I can’t imagine why NPR’s resident Putin Troll should find him credible.

I thought the conclusion was after the Novochok in Salisbury that only State operations would have access to such a nerve agent?

The attack in Salisbury was probably an FSB attack. But I was discussing Navalny.

Also, the article is not just about Navalny. It also shows how the UK (and most likely USA and other nations seeking to lay their hands on Russia's rich resources) try to make a regime change in Russia.

So the novichok attack on Navalny was probably also an FSB attack?

I don't think that can always be taken, as read. The FSB & GRU, could equally have been involved.

Skripal was an Ex GRU officer; after all ....
