6 nations 2021 Scrum down in the lockdown
Yeah, my second post clarified my feelings. I’m positive because we passed, ran, kicked, generally in that order. There’s still shit to sort, but the centres actually touched the ball.notfatcat wrote: Sat Mar 13, 2021 6:34 pmI must be a right negative bastard these days. Quins infuriate me nearly every time they play, and I thought England were the usual cack outside the first 20 minutes. The enjoyment dwindled pretty quickly after the awesome opening.Random1 wrote: Sat Mar 13, 2021 6:31 pm Really enjoyed that.
Malins did well enough to keep the spot, which is great.
Billy was throwing himself about a bit, so looked decent.
Nice to see some attacking pattern too. We looked decent on the front foot.
I’d have given MoM to maro.
That’s progress.
ExactlyRandom1 wrote: Sat Mar 13, 2021 6:38 pm Oh, and most of all - it was really important for England to win this considering they chose to run rather than take the kick first option.
If we played ball and lost, Eddie would have been justified in saying “see, told you running loses games”
This is an important game fir England.

Am going to complain about 2 decisions though because they mattered in the end on the board
1) Brace calls Maul and then penalises Fra for lying on the wrong side when the maul goes down. It's a maul, not a tackle. No-one has to move away anywhere.

They have to beat wales and scotland. Wales just have to beat France and they have the GS
Torq, when the ball is on the floor and clearly playable it goes from a maul to a ruck. That's how you cope with (for example) a choke tackle - by getting the ball down and visible.Torquemada 1420 wrote: Sat Mar 13, 2021 6:40 pmSame for me on other side of the fence.notfatcat wrote: Sat Mar 13, 2021 6:34 pm

2) The pen against Ollivon at the lineout was an equal joke although that came from the TJ to Brace.

And does the bonus points in those games affect it? For example if Wales get 2 bonus point against FranceBnM wrote: Sat Mar 13, 2021 6:45 pmThey have to beat wales and scotland. Wales just have to beat France and they have the GS
I thought Slade had a good game. The French midfield looked good because the ball was worked around at speed to create angles and space first, not just passed straight out with nobody there for a quick offload.ASMO wrote: Sat Mar 13, 2021 6:41 pm Curry easily MOM for me, he was immense. Farrell and Slade aren't the answer either.
England really need a total rethink on what they think centres are for. The French centres ran great lines, fixed defenders and moved the ball past the edge of the defence to the flyers. They also hold their depth. That's basically all they do but they're very very good at it. Farrell and Slade don't have any depth and Farrell has little dynamism to run a line or add a running threat. He can pass ok but without the other bits the defence will slide.

It's really unlikely that France will win both with a bonus point from each and Wales get no more points. Possible but unlikely. Wales are on for the GS and Scotland are having one of their best 6n for a whileLemoentjie wrote: Sat Mar 13, 2021 6:50 pmBnM says they can
I think that’s part of the conundrum with Eddie, he rates personality, dedication and leadership ahead of general skill and ability and potential.
I read he wasn’t the greatest player himself, but had grit and determination. Hence I think he really values those attributes.

Slade was poor with some occasional bright moments. But come on, who cares right now?

The arrogance of shouting on a rugby pitch! Uniquely English and disgusting! So revealing of the team ethic! Eddie can't delegate, he can't trust people. He's also got a huge ego and despises being questioned on his judgement. Add in that he literally doesn't have a boss and it's a recipe for something highly sub-optimal. In short, he picks players that are good at following his instructions with little room for innovation or flair.

While no one has to move away from the ball when the maul goes down, you can't move onto it either. It was playable according to the ref and the French player (was it Taofifenua?) moved to render it unplayable.Torquemada 1420 wrote: Sat Mar 13, 2021 6:40 pmSame for me on other side of the fence.notfatcat wrote: Sat Mar 13, 2021 6:34 pm

Well done England (just watched the 2nd half), great game of rugby.
France were oddly really dodgy in defence.
I’ve never seen a ref reverse a decision like that, don’t like it, it’s a really slippery slope to every decision getting reviewed.
I bloody love Sinkler, superb player.
I’ve never quite got the full on Youngs hate and he had a great game today
Watson is at least twice the player that May is you stupid English.
Eddie is a full on twat. 4 weeks ago we were being told that having the ball was a bad thing. The last 2 games England have thrown it about and looked good. You really need to get rid of him.

No he didn't. He barely brushed him which is what happens all the time with practically every jumper in the lineout: as the English commentators pointed out. It was an incredibly harsh pen (fine if we get consistency) which was not called by Brace but the TJ. Brace had no option but to go with the TJ who claimed it was an arm pull.JM2K6 wrote: Sat Mar 13, 2021 6:47 pm As for the penalty against ollivon, if it's the one I'm thinking of he clearly unbalanced Ewels by pulling on his arm in the air.

Ref calls maul. It goes to ground and the ball comes out on the England side. Ref calls ball available, at which point the French 4 dives over the top of it.
If it was that one it was pretty clear. Whether it was still a maul, or turned into a tackle, you can't just jump off your feet onto the ball in that situation.Margin__Walker wrote: Sun Mar 14, 2021 8:09 amThe one in the first half?Torquemada 1420 wrote: Sun Mar 14, 2021 7:51 amNo. He did not. May hadn't had a good 6N until yesterday and if he wants to release all the pent up emotion by screaming at the end of a pulsating match then fair play to him
