That would be my main complaint of the whole gig - Simply not enough racing. They could do well to extend the prada cup, or somehow have the home team involved that doesn't skew results. Just more action all round.
This 'round' of the AC was a bit of an anomaly. There was meant to be a series in the Med last year, and I think another one in NZ before the Xmas regatta. All called off coz of COVID. But I believe both INEOS and LRPP agree to use the same boats for next event. So existing 4 race boats will be sold to help new teams get involved. I think there were meant to be 8 or 10 teams in NZ, but cost and lack of time with new design put them off. So hopefully this will help them get up to speed quickly.
I am completely 'wowed' by them. I had raced those same waters for years but never seen a spectacle like this out there. I'm old but loving the new tech.
But maybe longer races and wider courses? Would loved to have seen a few races in higher winds too... but that can't be predicted...
Yes, agreed. I am of the same opinion. At least 8 legs. But course width takes away from local (spectator fleet) viewing, and also in AKL the size of the harbour. I agree it would be good, but I can at least see why that doesn't happen. In the old days in Freemantle and SD, there was no course boundary. They would sail out to wherever and back if they wanted. Imagine that now - 45 knots - coming thru.
