Easter
How about those of us who don't celebrate it, live in a country that gives a long weekend, but works for an employer in a different country and doesn't really ever take days off? Eh? Eh? Where's my genial statement!OomStruisbaai wrote: Fri Apr 02, 2021 7:28 am To all our posters celebrating Easter, have a blessed & happy weekend.

I don't think we've got any pagans, but in general I hope they have a good time celebrating Eostre.

It only just twigged today how much christians tweaked the noses of the jews by not only stealing the holiday timing, but then making a clear foodstuff (hot cross bun) from ingredients and methods that are forbidden to jews at this time.

Wouldn't be Easter without this making an appearance.
Hag Sameach is your best bet. Hag is holiday, Sameach is happy. Literally happy holiday. Using CH as a gutteral sound, that'll sound more like a hard K if you can't do it.sockwithaticket wrote: Fri Apr 02, 2021 10:14 amWell mazel tov to her (I'm afraid that's the only celebratory Hebrew I know).Raggs wrote: Fri Apr 02, 2021 10:08 amYou can wish my missus a happy pesach/passover.sockwithaticket wrote: Fri Apr 02, 2021 9:53 am I don't think we've got any pagans, but in general I hope they have a good time celebrating Eostre.

I'm "working" today too
I've got an odd sort of work. I normally start around 8.30-9.30am, and finish some time between 10-11pm. Lots of time during the day to myself, but constantly making sure there's nothing new coming in, trying to get things done asap. It means I have the freedom to go out for a couple of hours if I fancy it etc. As I said, I don't really take holidays, so even when on "holiday" I usually do a few hours work a day regardless, to keep things ticking over. Suits my employer to have more hours covered, suits me to have the freedom to work from anywhere I can get an internet connection. I should probably try and take actual holidays more, but to be honest, I'd rather make sure I'm seen as undroppable as possible, since I like my situation.Chrysoprase wrote: Fri Apr 02, 2021 1:22 pmYou can't be working that hard if you're posting in hereRaggs wrote: Fri Apr 02, 2021 8:24 amHow about those of us who don't celebrate it, live in a country that gives a long weekend, but works for an employer in a different country and doesn't really ever take days off? We might be close to it! A friend asked if I was traveling this weekend. "No, why?" "No Easter gathering with the family?" "People do that? I think we had a dinner or two back in the day, and got chocolate from gran, but that's it."sockwithaticket wrote: Fri Apr 02, 2021 9:53 am I don't think we've got any pagans, but in general I hope they have a good time celebrating Eostre.
My celebration will be Monday when all the goodies go on sale!

One of my favourite times of the year. I don't know if Hotel Chocolat have a reach outside of the UK, but I regularly stock up on their fairly pricy delicious offerings after all the significant holidays when things can got to half price or better. I think I've still got some caramel filled milke chocolate penguins somewhere after ordering loads when they dropped to a third of their original price post-Christmas...Niegs wrote: Fri Apr 02, 2021 3:00 pmWe might be close to it! We don't, but most shops will have some to get rid of. The best is probably our version of Boots near me. Not all are like this, but the manager there seems to want all stuff GONE before their sell-by date. No 10-25% off there. It's usually 50% or more, and that goes for regular stuff too. Was in there recently when they had bags of trail mix which were $5 down to 50 cents each. Yeah, bought them all.sockwithaticket wrote: Fri Apr 02, 2021 3:04 pmOne of my favourite times of the year. The real misers are the ones that still have Creme Eggs at 10 cents off well into June!
