Duke of Edinburgh.....................
Royal titles can be created however the monarch wants them to be created. But changing them post creation is non-trivial in most cases, at least under the prevailing legal theory. There is an argument the Harry could be stripped of the Sussex title for instance, and it's certainly one held by courtiers in the Palace - but no-one really wants to open the can of worms that might lead toGogLais wrote: Fri Apr 16, 2021 1:01 pmThanks, I assumed it was a one-off conferral, if there is such a word.Saint wrote: Fri Apr 16, 2021 12:55 pmThe letters patent that created this version are very specific - it's hereditary, through the male line. Surely Duke of Edinburgh is trumped by Prince of Wales. Why would Charles want a second-rate title?Happyhooker wrote: Fri Apr 16, 2021 1:07 pmHe is. Prince of Wales - granted by the Monarch, traditionally for the heir apparent, but not automatic
The following are reserved for the male heir apparent:
Duke of Cornwall
Duke of Rothesay,
Earl of Carrick
Baron of Renfrew
Lord of the Isles
Prince and Great Steward of Scotland
And has inherited the following from his father:
Duke of Edinburgh
Earl of Merioneth
Baron Greenwich.

Makes me want to play CK2.

Its a nonsense, he should until the Maxwell trial has either 'cleared' him or dragged him, in try not to show what a petulant, entitled buffoon he is.Biffer wrote: Fri Apr 16, 2021 6:22 amWhat’s your view on Andrew wanting to wear the uniform of a rank he doesn’t have?Openside wrote: Thu Apr 15, 2021 8:56 pmI completely agree, but she has said he can’t - keep up
JM I am not heated at all I just think arguing about who can wear what at PP’d funeral is pretty disgraceful. There are plenty of reports of him throwing his toys out of the pram about losing his honorary ranks.
