Scotland scored more the last time they played Sri Lanka. So did Oman. The way England are playing they wouldn’t have got through the qualifying tournament.
Unfortunately this undermines your argument a little bit. Qualifying and other ODIs aren't the world cup, which is a high pressure "neutral" tournament over a long period of time where plenty of teams raise their game. England won the last three odi series, losing 5 out of 14 since the last World Cup.
We were able to send a second team to beat Ireland before the world cup. You just can't replicate the world cup setup in any meaningful way.

Well, that’s the argument of someone from a country that never has to qualify, or when they do they get top seeding and a cakewalk.

Be honest: before this tournament started do you think you would have believed England wouldn't have walked qualification? There's a fair bit of 20:20 hindsight going on here.
Qualification games are a lot more like regular ODIs than they are like a world cup tournament for a host of fairly obvious reasons.

No, but I thought they were better than they obviously are.
In turn, do you think that before the qualifying tournament you would have believed that West Indies would have lost to Zimbabwe, Scotland and the Netherlands in consecutive games? Or that Ireland wouldn’t even get into the super six ahead of Scotland, the Netherlands or Oman?

Yes? West Indies have been in a death spiral for ages and they had huge problems with player availability and retention. In 2018 they'd managed to win just 26% of their ODIs following on from the 2015 tournament (compared to 66% for England or India - only Sri Lanka was worse than 45%). They're fucking dreadful.
Ireland went backwards at a rate of knots after the last World Cup. The only surprise in qualifiers was the loss to Oman.

If they hadn’t, they’d have still been in the qualifying tournament earlier in the year.

If Pakistan had managed to bat the full 50 and get it to maybe 290, it'd be a bigger challenge, but I think SA would still have it. Let's see.

Comfortable run rate so play unnecessary shots to get yourself out. Mind numbingly dumb.
Pakistan had to do nothing but wait for the bad shots, they've done little to actually manufacture the wickets from pressure or smart bowling/tactics

Stokes coming back has been a problem. He hasn't been fit enough to feature in most of the matches and he caused a late rethink of the squad.
I don't think the entire squad going into meltdown has anything to do with what I'm saying about England being the opposite of a one man team for the past eight years but hey

Bowling pies, dropping catches and getting smacked into next week.
Cummings has 37 from 13
And Aus in danger of not batting out their overs
388/9 9 balls left

Cracking game. Need ham will be kicking himself for a long time though - seven needed from two balls and he’s presented with a knee high full toss on his legs. That should have been in the stands. Instead he doesn’t connect properly and is run out going back for two.
