Soor Plooms - a quarter of - in a paper bag

Image

Yes it will rip the top of your mouth to pieces , but on the positive side , its the only sweet that commemorates the killing of a raiding party from England which were overwhelmed and killed by local men from Galashiels when discovered eating unripe plums.

As a pale merk, I can confirm their jaggedness.

I do enjoy Jethart Snails and Moffet Toffees as well. As for Hawick Balls, well, enough said.

Cool. If I’m desperate I’ll have to try Amazon, or maybe the South African store.

They're easily found in Saffa now. Actually got a roll at an Engen woolies last week. Addictive though.

Jaffa’s are now made by RJs and the chocolate centre isn’t the same. Reminds of when Cadbury started importing Aussie creme eggs and the centre’s were Shite.

I didn’t know until I was back in NZ that snifters had ceased.

I want someone to burn in hell over that. Who’s to blame?

I found something very similar to them in giant size, but not the same.

Do these things count? I'd rather them as smaller, oval candies rather than the full stick though I've never seen that sort of thing in the range of flavours these have (have seen racks with triple the number of flavours).

We, the consumer, are to blame apparently. This is what happens when global fat cats put profit before social responsibility - Snifters, Tangy Fruits and Sparkles get the cut .

Another reminder that life is short and to cherish the confectionery you love while you have the chance.

Ottawa's is called Sugar Mountain... apt name if there ever was one! There's a Candy Safari where my best friend lives. But I don't think either produce much in-house.

There's a Dirty Jobs episode where Mike works at one of those... it's messy, but probably the least 'dirty' of the jobs I've ever seen him do. Every time I see them scrape chocolate on the table to roll stuff in or whatever I wonder if - like me - they'd be licking the counter top after the camera's off?

9 mins into this if interested

I don't recall that Haribo was even a thing back in my sweet eating days ( admittedly well over 30 years ago) unless they were behind things better known under another name. I hadn't heard of them at all until about 15 years ago.

Somebody already posted Black Jacks and Drumsticks...which instantly reminded me of Phantom Chews and Fruit Salads.

Christ, I'd love a vanilla flavoured Phantom Chew right now!

Yes, i remember them being very exotic. I do love those haribo jelly type cherry things though.

And an excellent mention of fruit salads.

I find the idea of candy nostalgia rather odd. I ate loads of sweets as a child and teen but certainly don’t have any nostalgia for them.
