Yes, he had a great season this season, previously always broken though. Perhaps next year will be his year.

Look I dont want to replace the lot in the bigger squad. They much give the others in the group like Joseph Dweba, Thomas du Toit, Vincent Koch, Ox, RG Snyman, Evan Roos , Deon Fourie & Grant Williams a start against the Pumas. After that they should reward the performers and drop the non performers.

Are we all in agreement then that Vermeulen was crap against the Ozzies and the All Blacks?
He should be put out to pasture.

Who would you take to the world cup as back up for Wiese? I thought he was very good against the Wallabies, but so was the rest of the team.

We lost anyway. Even with resting our players and getting them there early to prevent jet lag.
Chilli wrote: Tue Jul 18, 2023 4:58 am
The All Blacks were better than us on the day, as they normally are.
We can debate that whole strategy of splitting the squad and travelling early...
but there's another aspect to the performance that's being missed a little. After the first 30 minutes or so when the ABs had been on fire, they lost their way a little and settled into a more conservative game. Then your guys started to exert their own influence on the game and momentum completely shifted, swing the Boks' way... and the Boks were dominant for the middle hour or so of the game. To come back from so far behind is no mean feat and the power your guys had over the breakdown was pretty convincing... the ABs started to look pretty rattled. Of course some individual brilliance sealed the deal and that early lead proved enough... this time.
The thing I look at it here is, the next time we play will be at the RWC when both sides have had the same travel and build up issues. Barring injury or some sort of brainfart suspension, both sides will be able to name their best teams... and from what I saw the other night, the Springboks have a lot more to show whereas we saw the ABs pretty much at their best. You guys have a bigger upside to look forward to... and I think you're on track to go deep into the RWC. How we go next time out against each other is impossible to predict but I think it'll be a much closer result and there's no way I see it automatically going the ABs way.
Guy I like your thinking.
How many of the matchday All Blacks played in the Soup final.?
Of the starting 15...
Forwards: Hooker, two locks and Openside.
Backs: Number 10 and 14.
Six in the starting team..
On the bench: Samisoni, Williams and Ennor (3)
In total, Nine of the 23 played in the Super Final.
I think NZ came back well in the last 20 minutes after SA were gaining some momentum during the middle third of the game. So both teams can improve. Personally I think mentally SA weren't quite there. Which could be because of Eben's dad passing, affecting the whole vibe of the group.

They won't bring in any player who hasn't been with the Boks for the last month (minimum) at this stage unless all the props or flyhalves go down. The squad has enough cover everywhere else.

Perhaps Buthelezi or Notshe and then drop Marx and Malherbe for Kerron van Vuuren and Mchunu, They're old and over the hill too.
In the backs, drop DDA for Janse van Grensburg and Willie for Thaakir Abrahams.

Sounds like a plan. Also that new utility back at the Lions with 3 caps. He'd be perfect for the RWC.

The current crop of Boks are hardly the geriatric Lions that got spanked in NZ in 2005.
Quite, I would rather say that there is a complete lack of game time....Nienaber hinted at it that the team that played Aus were battle hardened.....The toppies are so UN MATCH FIT its not funny.
I would agree with ouboet that Dan Du Plesis should have been in the squad ages ago. I just feel they are giving some players a pass to the detriment of others. Its always like that.

Before this year no one even knew who Dan Doep was. All of a sudden, he should have been a Springbok ages ago. Write off 2020, 2021 anyone calling for Dan? no. 2022? no, where was he even. He was injured. One good season and it's "they should have blooded him in 1998 already"

The rusty toppies are out of shape. How do we get them back into shape? We let them sit in the stands and watch these exiting new young players play.
Do you understand that to become match fit you actually need to play matches and the national side only have a limited number of matches to play in?
I'm beginning to think I've rediscovered YMX's twins.
