Important development if you know someone over 70 who has not yet had an appointment:
People aged 70 and over who have not yet had a coronavirus vaccine are being urged to book an appointment with the NHS to get a jab.

Try reading the conclusions of the study you linked. The one that literally says "The most effective NPIs (Non-Pharmaceutical Interventions) include curfews, lockdowns and closing and restricting places where people gather in smaller or large numbers for an extended period of time."

Agree with this - will do more harm than good. That said the number we are so close to the number needed to get the most vulnerable done I think it will still happen before the 15th.

Yes, but the armed forces are portrayed in the exact opposite way, particularly in the media - dripping in "Britishness". I'm sure they did a poll during the 2014 referendum where a surprisingly large proportion (over 50%) of the Scottish Armed forces regiments were more than happy to transfer to a purely Scottish setup. Having said that, I can't see why there couldn't continue to be some kind of shared defense force post independence.

Matt Hancock has set out tough new measures to stop Covid-19 variants from entering England, including a 10-year sentence for incoming passengers who lie about where they have travelled when abroad.
The health secretary said people who entered the UK from 33 high-risk countries would have to pay up to £1,750 to quarantine in government-designated hotels. He also confirmed a new “enhanced testing” regime for all international travellers, with two tests required during the quarantine process from next Monday.
