Woke up at stupid o clock this morning. Bloody birds wake up early in British summer. So thought I’d set it up for gumboot.

Although it’s not looking likely. Hope they postpone the game.

What happens if it is a draw? Do NZ claim a moral victory when the ICC bow to pressure from BCCI and award it to India?

How many boundaries did NZ get during the tournament?

Onya, mate.

Massive excitement building for what will be the single most significant match in the entire history of test cricket, evah!

We look to have a very settled side, and the only area of contention seems to be whether we play a spinner or go for five seamers. No doubt horses for courses will prevail, but I hope Waggers doesn't miss out.

I will claim a moral victory if that happens. Look at our poor guys in the OP - six of them don’t even warrant having faces.

Looks like it might rain every day of it - classic

If the weather forecast is accurate - definitely no play on the Friday - maybe interrupted sessions on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday and then nay chance for the next few days.

What a shame.

The thing with storms, particularly along the coast, is they are notoriously difficult to forecast and hit some places much worse than others. Amazed at the amount of times I've played a full game with a terrible forecast when people down the road never even travelled, and vice versa.

All the same, no way they get five days of cricket.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Wagner and Patel will make way for Jamieson and de Grandhomme

Good read.

I like this part about Williamson describing the difference between them.
Asked once what it was like to bat with McCullum during one of McCullum's most explosive innings, he replied: "I kinda felt like I was the library in a theme park."
To be honest it sounds like one of the key differences to now, was in replacing the pitches.
Eventually, NZC began to understand the inadequacy of their first-class surfaces and relaid most of them. It was almost as if only upon finding Williamson that it occurred to them that it might be helpful to have more like him

Very much this.

I know of an ex international cricket player who set up a coaching facility that allowed batters and bowlers to experience different types of pitch's within the same facility.

NZC had an audible 'ah haa' moment and the result of that are plain to see.

Most pro indoor centres in English cricket I've been to are exceptionally fast and bouncy - may well help to explain our failures with the moving ball.

India's XI has been named:

1 Rohit Sharma
2 Shubman Gill
3 Cheteshwar Pujara
4 Virat Kohli (capt)
5 Ajinkya Rahane
6 Rishabh Pant (wk)
7 Ravindra Jadeja
8 R Ashwin
9 Ishant Sharma
10 Mohammed Shami
11 Jasprit Bumrah

Looks weak.

Unfortunately the rain might save them from a humiliating defeat, so we may have to settle for just the moral victory.

Scheduled to pour down all day up the road in Salisbury so you’ll have to thrash them in 4 days max

Have the one extra day. So even if today is a washout, there will be 5 more (days of rain)

Speaking 24 hours out from the game in Southampton, in which India take on New Zealand after a two-year cycle that was nearly derailed by the pandemic, Kohli was asked whether this was the biggest Test match of a career already assured of its place in history.

“No, for me this is another Test match that has to be played,” Kohli replied. “I think these things are very exciting from the outside, where there is so much importance and so much extra stuff attached to one game. It sort of becomes do or die.

“But for us as a team, we have been on a quest for excellence for a while now and we will continue to be on that path regardless of what happens in this game. It is no different for us, no more important for us than the first Test we played together as a young group of players. The mindset remains the same.”
What.a.cock

Stupid question mind.

The location makes it lame. Southampton is a shite ground. If it was Lords, MCG or even a packed Wanderers it would be a much bigger event.

Simple, knock india off in the 30min of cricket available in the next 2 days - at the same time removing NZ from the lowest test total record - open with cdg slogging for an hour. Bowl them out in the last 20min of the sixth day.

Total match time 1hr 40min, images of kohli pulling angry facials 3820.

I could imagine this as the haunted face of a captain (too shocked to have removed his pads and helmet) who has just seen his side bowled out for 25.

Oh to dream. If he is that quiet there is serious damage being done to him.

I did see him get out bowled against England recently and he pulled such a major pissed off unbelieving look the umpires checked to make sure the keeper hadn't knocked the bails off. It's insane

First session washed out so the toss has been delayed. Looks like the whole day's a goneburger. As my wise old uncle used to say, never trust an English summer.

Bugger.

On the bright side, there will still be five days of play scheduled after this.

Which is why they’ve also scheduled six days of rain.

We need to make the most of early conditions with the attack we’ve picked.

Southee picks up a screamer at 3rd slip from Rohit, so again Jamieson makes the breakthrough against India.

We really needed that wicket.

After taking the catch Southee is back into the attack with his radar still stuck on “wayward”.

No urgency or much energy in this game. I suspect the weather forecast has everyone resigned to a tame draw.
