Ryder Cup 2021
Right, assuming things stay the same with Lowry sitting at 9, who gets the Captain's picks.
For me Poulter and Garcia are shoe ins and are showing decent enough form. Rose has no form at all nor does Peres. Bob McIntyre doesn't deserve it given his ridiculous schedule. For me I would be happy to see Rasmus Hoejgaard get the call, ridiculously going player.

Not sure where you're getting ridiculous schedule from for MacIntyre? He's only played one more tournament than Hojgaard so far as I can tell. You're right about Poulter I think and I reckon there'll be one spot for either Rose or Garcia, plus one for a younger guy like the two you mentioned, Perez, or maybe even Calum Hill. I think if any of them win the PGA championship this weekend they go straight into the automatic spots.Blackmac wrote: Wed Sep 08, 2021 4:45 pm Right, assuming things stay the same with Lowry sitting at 9, who gets the Captain's picks.

I have a bit of a fear however that Harrington will do an old boys club thing.

Deciding to play the Korn Ferry tour championships rather than potentially pick up points in Italy or the previous week wasn't a good look IMO.Biffer wrote: Thu Sep 09, 2021 11:02 amNot sure where you're getting ridiculous schedule from for MacIntyre? Garcia has been given the nod already, that's the only sensible explanation for not teeing up this week. Poulter probably has done enough too.Blackmac wrote: Wed Sep 08, 2021 4:45 pm Right, assuming things stay the same with Lowry sitting at 9, who gets the Captain's picks.

Hoejgaard is certainly the hot hand at the moment.
I think this week will tell a lot, MacIntyre still should have some credit for his decent showing earlier in the year in the majors where he seems to do well. He isn't scared of anyone. I think if he gets a top 10 there is still a chance for him and he has been getting experience in the states. However, if he doesn't make it there will be other Ryder Cups for him.
Perez might have credit in the bank for his matchplay run earlier in the season if he does ok this week too.
Wouldn't take Rose or Weisberger, and wouldn't take Stenson even though he has been better lately it isn't enough. Migliozzi has been hanging about the tail end of the top 10-15 in the points rankings all season too.
That's exactly what I mean. Barely played a European tour event in months. I think he is being badly advised and is trying to run before he can walk. Some good results so far but needs to establish himself as a regular winner on the European tour first before chasing the big bucks in the US.Big D wrote: Thu Sep 09, 2021 12:26 pmDeciding to play the Korn Ferry tour championships rather than potentially pick up points in Italy or the previous week wasn't a good look IMO.Biffer wrote: Thu Sep 09, 2021 11:02 amNot sure where you're getting ridiculous schedule from for MacIntyre? So far as I can tell he only played 4 events in the US that aren't also European Tour events? Got to remember he went to college over there as well so is probably a bit drawn to playing more than others might. He's played 12 PGA Tour events this year - four of them are the majors, 3 are the WGC events, plus the Players Championship. I don't think there's a single European player who wouldn't take those invitations up if they were offered. He played the Arnold Palmer Invitation in the week in between the WGC and the Players Championship, and he played the RBC Heritage the week after the Masters. I'll give you the Wyndham, that was a bad choice. But so far as I can tell he hasn't played in the last three weeks - no idea why.Blackmac wrote: Thu Sep 09, 2021 2:06 pmThat's exactly what I mean. Edit - just looked at the Korn Ferry and he's not listed as having played?

As usual, if they win he's a genius, if they lose he's a moron for picking the old boys

I’ve been very childish reading about the course the US are setting up and Poulter admitting “he’s not as long as others in the team but it just comes down to being able to stick it into the hole”.
In April you were wrong and I'm quite happy to stick with that ascertion, because at the time it was correct. Lowry's form over the previous year and half had been abysmal, and despite being a major champion, Harrington would have really struggled to justify the pick. His form since then has been excellent and he has clearly been desperate to qualify, so things have changed dramatically in his favour and im delighted for him.Biffer wrote: Sun Sep 12, 2021 7:57 pm I’ll just point out here that I said in April on the golf thread that Garcia and Lowry would get captains picks.
I won’t highlight who vehemently disagreed with me![]()

To be honest all of us predicting picks that far in advance were shooting in the dark.

Retcon all you like.Nah, you are at it mate. If you had predicted that Lowry would hit a superb run of form to make the team, then you would have deserved plaudits. However, predicting, in April, that a horrifically out of form and historically inconsistent Lowry deserved a captain's pick had no golfing credibility at all unless you were basing it on the fact he is Irish and Harrington's drinking mate.

Bookies don’t care if you were lucky.

This crowd is going to wear a little thin after three days. Garcia with a wobbler into the bunker. Thomas straight down the middle.
Yeah, but it’ll turn very easily. They always do in the US, they don’t really understand the whole national team support thing. Mainly because they hardly play team sport against anyone else at anything that’s got any profile - this is the biggest team event that the USA plays in any sport.
Is it just me or does this course look very links-y?

Was a cracking attempt. Got away with a half on that. Morikawa couldn’t have made that any harder with his tee shot. Rahm had a very tough shot there and leaves it short of the green.
And Johnson plays a beauty to put that in the green.

And Hovland goes lefter than a one armed Jeremy Corbyn.
It’s a lovely looking course.

Yeah, beautiful. A long way from a typical US course. Shades of Pebble Beach.ScarfaceClaw wrote: Fri Sep 24, 2021 12:37 pm And Hovland goes lefter than a one armed Jeremy Corbyn.

Putts are going the way of the merkins. It’s only a matter of time before McIlroy gets his customary under pressure yips and hands his match over with little more than a whimper and a walk like a mildly frustrated chicken.

I always think that’s a good way to get in their heads. Chummy, have a laugh, then when it matters, make them knock in a two footer for a half.ScarfaceClaw wrote: Fri Sep 24, 2021 2:57 pmAnd stood there laughing like it was a knock around with a few mates on a public course.
Did Faldo not do that once, was all chat and jokes on the first tee and it was so unlike him it freaked the Americans out?
