I learnt, when my daughter was still in nappies, that front to back is THE correct way to wipe... for hygiene.

I read that completely wrong and replied completely wrong. Front to back is the only correct way for both. Firstly that's harder - turn the roll, then grasp the paper, rather than just, you know, grasping the paper.
Secondly it means a greatly increased chance of getting your fingerprints over paper that someone else then uses, which is a bit icky.

I just put the roll on top of the bog. Makes it easier to wrap it around my hand and I don't have to remove the old carton inner on the roller. Strangely enough, the next day I find it has magically put itself on the roller.
