Really disappointed for Cavendish not being in the team. Hoped he'd get a chance to take the record for stage wins.

If Pinot could find his 2019 form, I would say that FDJ had a strong lineup to chase a podium, but Pinot himself said he will only be chasing stage victories. Gaudu and Storer are not strong enough climbers to chase a podium either. So I guess FDJ will focus on the polka jersey and stage victories. Maybe Gaudu will try a top 10 finish.

Bardet seemed in fine form on the Giro. Wonder in which form he is now. Another rider who will chase stage victories for France I imagine.

You can add Coquard to that lot.

What the fuck are Quickstep up to? They have the reigning green jersey winner, the French national road race champion and the World road race champion under contract. None of them picked for the TdF team.

I hope they have a really shit tour.

Alaphillipe is no real surprise given his recent injuries but Cavendish really is a head scratcher given what is on the line and the potential publicity the team would get. Quite clearly a team looking for stage wins and there really isn't that much between him and Jakobsen, other than a huge amount of experience.
Those in the know are saying the Belgium team were heavily pressured not to beat Merckx record.

Team sponsors are in it for the publicity and Quickstep seem to have foregone the opportunity to have one of the greatest moments in tour history happen in their colours. It would be a big story, but not as big elsewhere as in the UK probably. Likewise, Jakobsen getting a stage win would be a major story in the Netherlands and Belgium but probably not in the UK.

I don't think anyone suggested Jacobsen was a poor selection, just an odd one given how much history was on the line.

Uran stuck again at the back, and he lost 39s because of a fall... not a good start for him.

Pinot lost time as well, but he is not targetting the GC this year.

I don't think anyone suggested Jacobsen was a poor selection, just an odd one given how much history was on the line.

Don't think it's an odd one. Jakobsen was always going to the Tour (confirmed months ago) and is probably the best current sprinter, so the question was if QS could accommodate a second sprinter, which they decided against.

Freak victory for Van Aert yesterday who is a solid green Jersey prospect and who could establish a points record I am sure.

Today will be survival mode for most GC contenders, but Pogacar, Roglic and Thomas could do well and put time in the competition here.

It was an amazing stage, Roglic finished with a dislocated shoulder, what a tough guy!


Today was incredible too, and Pogacar has his first stage victory and is already in yellow.

Stage 11 and the first foray into the Alps...

Jumbo Visma throw the big balls on the line and attack Pogacar, coming away with Yellow for Vingegard and a 2 minute lead, with Pogacar in 3rd just seconds ahead of Thomas.

I slept through this, catching highlights in the morning our time. Tonight might be worth staying up for with another savage day of climbing.

We're lucky, we're seeing an amazing generational change in the peloton.

Missed yesterday unfortunately! I was reading about it this morning though and there was chat about Pogacar getting dehydrated and none of his team mates could get water to him. Isn't his support car allowed to go and give him water?
