Howdy, fellow sports nerds.

I have to do a short presentation on a 'new' textile used in sport - can be innovative or total bollocks - for a class. I want to avoid the LZR swim suit and wondered what else is out there?

How about high molecular weight polyamides?
All the rage, great wicking properties, cheap and hard wearing.

Or rPET - the stuff from recycled plastics. Quite established but little understood IMO

Topical in terms of sustainability and of reduced crude oil usage

I'm looking for something that's either already in use in sports with some data / evaluation behind it in the sports world, or an easy to way to hypothesize how something new could be applied.

I've read that smart fabrics were halted by many as the wearables were doing a good job (and maybe less finicky/more reliable over time?) but maybe energy harvesting fabrics could be a game-changer in that regard, powering the device rather than a limited battery (especially in remote, long distance activities)?

Yulex - natural rubber wetsuits (patagonia wetsuits use it) replacing neoprene which is a product of the oil and gas industry.

Replacement of Teflon or pfa's coatings on waterproof gear? Pfas are persistent organic pollutants pop's and likely to be banned or phased out in the near future.

Or the good old Gore-tex. Interesting company too. Lots of info on google.
