I went with my wife on a holiday to Leda in Greece with Ocean Elements about 10 years ago,. We're looking to take the kids next year but it looks like Ocean Elements is on hiatus post-covid.
Does anyone have any recommendations for equivalent?
It's basically a hotel resort with a nice beach, shitloads of dinghies, qualified sailing instructors, and connections from airports to get to the resort itself.
recommendations for beach dinghy sailing holiday
Neilson - Vounaki is nice though they have other resorts as well.inactionman wrote: Sun Jul 14, 2024 10:51 pm I went with my wife on a holiday to Leda in Greece with Ocean Elements about 10 years ago,. That's on our list but not done it yet.Sards wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2024 10:47 am I have been thinking about chartering a yacht with captain for a warm island hopping holiday. Has anyone done this.
We were gravitating more to flotilla, where you essentially captain your own yacht but defer to a professionally skippered yacht who will deal with timings, navigation, mooring, problems etc. Having an onboard skipper is a bit of an intrusion, expensive and takes a bit away from the idea of actually doing it yourself.
I'm a qualified but inexperienced day skipper so it would be a sensible step to have a bit of hand holding in unfamiliar places.
eta: apols, I didn't make clear- you'd need a qualification of some sort (RYA day skipper equivalent) to be able to charter in a flotilla, without that you'd need an onboard skipper.

I'm not really wedded to Greece, although it's handy having low/no-tide and consistent wind and weather. Most of the all-in-one places tend to be Med or AdriaticSlick wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2024 6:46 amGreece again? Neilson are quoting 6 grand halfish-board for a week in early season for 2 adults and 2 kids, seems a little bit steep - from memory we paid about 700 each for a week pre-kids, but that's a while ago now.petej wrote: Sun Jul 14, 2024 11:38 pmNeilson - Vounaki is nice though they have other resorts as well.inactionman wrote: Sun Jul 14, 2024 10:51 pm I went with my wife on a holiday to Leda in Greece with Ocean Elements about 10 years ago,. Wildwind are a touch more expensive still, so that might just be the current going rate.
eta - scratch that, just checked and that's the Croatia price, it's around 4.5k for Greece. Also flying from Edinburgh which might push up prices -could get easyjet to Gatwick as it seems cheaper to go from there.
I gave it thought. An experienced skipper would make the holiday a lot easier. Knowing the marks , time to travel between locations etc. Not sure about the intrusion.inactionman wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2024 11:09 amThat's on our list but not done it yet.Sards wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2024 10:47 am I have been thinking about chartering a yacht with captain for a warm island hopping holiday. I am at the Neilson levante resort atm. Lots of good sailing tennis and road cycling. Kids are entertained in the clubs doing sailing etc I am out on my bike and the wife is playing tennis. We see each other for meal times and drinks. Works for us.

Much as I adore the wee nippers, that sounds ideal. Let them burn off energy in the water and we'll tuck them up at night.yermum wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2024 12:03 pm I am at the Neilson levante resort atm. Lots of good sailing tennis and road cycling. Can I ask how old your kids are? Our youngest will have turned 7 by the time we go, not sure if that's too young for the sailing. I've had to hold off joining the club in Edinburgh as they recommend the kids are a bit older - but that's an amateur club in cold, windy and tidal open water, might be easier with genuine instructors in milder water.
Anyway, sounds like you're enjoying it

I think it is 8 years old for dinghy sailing.inactionman wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2024 12:41 pmMuch as I adore the wee nippers, that sounds ideal. Mine are 10 and 14 the older is 14 going on 20 and doesn’t join in the clubs too much. The younger is in the sailing focused club hotshots which has an additional levy of £250 but they just do sailing and windsurfing and get the rya qualifications she has been the last few years and now has all the sailing badges it starts At age 8. There are clubs for younger kids which do a bit of sailing as well I think

Cool, ta. I may wait a year until the youngest is 8, as I foresee tears if she can't do what her older sister can do.yermum wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2024 1:02 pm Mine are 10 and 14 the older is 14 going on 20 and doesn’t join in the clubs too much. Unfortunately the most obvious place to head to from Edinburgh - cosmos on vassiliki - doesn't offer dinghy sailing
