Absolutely no one, other than those contractually obliged to, will call it any other than Twickenham. Cunts

On brand for Twickenham. At least it isn't a dodgy betting company.

Amongst other reservations, all a bit early model sarries for my liking

I'm always curious where the line is on "suitable" sponsers.
If Mr, or Mrs Acme wanted, would the RFU christen it the, "Acme Vibrating Buttplug Stadium"
How about Sports Betting companies, the cause of endless human misery ?
How much money washes away sin, & any pretense of ethics ?
Not specifically an RFU issue, but it's a tough line to tread for any Sporting organization which also funds the amateur game.

The RFU have fuck all money, this is an easy option when beggars can't be choosers.
Objectively it's a shit stadium, bloody hard to get to and a concrete bowl.
Subjectively, 10,000 boos and a cactus up the arse of whoever signed this off.

The SRU is hardly rolling in cash and we've done naming deals that keep the Murrayfield name.Hal Jordan wrote: Mon Aug 05, 2024 6:22 pm The RFU have fuck all money, this is an easy option when beggars can't be choosers.

Couldn't care less to be honest, I'll still refer to it as twickenham, don't care what the commentary team call it. Hope the RFU got a shit ton of cash.

Well it could be worse, no doubt KFC is looking for some marketing options. The headlines would just write themselvesInsane_Homer wrote: Mon Aug 05, 2024 5:25 pm Absolutely no one, other than those contractually obliged to, will call it any other than Twickenham. Cunts

it's a little bit annoying have built Twickenham, revamped Twickenham, redone the South Stand we now need to for out £660 million to upgrade Twickenham. that's a lot of money not going anywhere else in the game, but I suppose anyone hoping for a share of gate receipts now needs to cough up their share of the £600 million and change or jog on
name change, meh, it'd be nice not to need it but to give up so little for such a sum isn't an offer I can see you could reasonably decline

Good luck selling tickets to local derbies if you don't want to pay visiting teams for the opportunity to leverage the attraction they provide.Rhubarb & Custard wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2024 3:30 am I suppose anyone hoping for a share of gate receipts now needs to cough up their share of the £600 million and change or jog on

We play at their stadiums, same as it has always been. And they in turn take their profit then.Guy Smiley wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2024 3:45 amGood luck selling tickets to local derbies if you don't want to pay visiting teams for the opportunity to leverage the attraction they provide.Rhubarb & Custard wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2024 3:30 am I suppose anyone hoping for a share of gate receipts now needs to cough up their share of the £600 million and change or jog on
And fwiw I can't think of a local derby Twickenham wouldn't sell out for, Italy would be the weakest and that's hardly an empty stadium event

There is often some chat, mostly background sometimes more overt, about a shift to revenue sharing in rugby. And whilst the RFU are unlikely to think it's a good idea given how much they make from a sold out Twickenham it'd be a complete non starter if they sink over half a billion into the site.

It's apparently worth over £100M for a 'multi-year commitment', in BillSweeneyspeak.
Will just about do one end of the ground, then. Not sure where the other half-billion is coming from.

Supposedly over 10 years? With a proportion of that going to grassroots rugby according to Sweeneyinactionman wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2024 1:41 pm It's apparently worth over £100M for a 'multi-year commitment', in BillSweeneyspeak.

I was thinking they could just cut back on the fine wines for the 57 old farts and their mates, that would save the GDP of a small country.Slick wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2024 2:26 pm"Reg Vardy Marcus Smith passes to Iceland Ollie Slightholme"inactionman wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2024 1:41 pm It's apparently worth over £100M for a 'multi-year commitment', in BillSweeneyspeak.

'A proportion' being 'the same pitiful proportion as last time', no doubt.SaintK wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2024 2:51 pmSupposedly over 10 years? Why does Twickenham seem to cost so much? I understand it's in a built up area of London but it's just mad (I remain unconvinced the national stadium needs to say in London).

The RFU absolutely do not have the capability to manage a project of this scale and will most likely bankrupt themselves trying to. Should have bought half of Wembleyinactionman wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2024 3:10 pm'A proportion' being 'the same pitiful proportion as last time', no doubt.SaintK wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2024 2:51 pmSupposedly over 10 years? Try the BBL Downunder, "that's a Bunning's Warehouse six", in a breathless voice that wouldn't be out of place at closing time in a pub in Penrith ... sorry PenrifffNiegs wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2024 1:29 am Will they also get a sponsor for replays so commentators will have to introduce each like NRL with their "Let's look at the Harvey Norman replay..."?
You joke but NZ provincial teams have individual local sponsors on the back of shirts...Slick wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2024 2:26 pm"Reg Vardy Marcus Smith passes to Iceland Ollie Slightholme"inactionman wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2024 1:41 pm It's apparently worth over £100M for a 'multi-year commitment', in BillSweeneyspeak.

Given the location of Twickenham and The Stoop, Currie Motors Marcus Smith would be more apt.Slick wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2024 2:26 pm"Reg Vardy Marcus Smith passes to Iceland Ollie Slightholme"inactionman wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2024 1:41 pm It's apparently worth over £100M for a 'multi-year commitment', in BillSweeneyspeak.
