Barely a day passes where I don't read something from a right winger saying the BBC is a left wing, biased, captured institution beholden to the globalist elite. How it should be defunded or turned into a subscription model and so on and so forth.

By the same token you don't struggle to find left wing, remainer types who say the exact opposite and bemoan how the BBC's has right wing bias and how it platforms Farage and the reform party, in fact I think Alastair Campbell tweeted about exactly this yesterday.

Since the BBC can't win for losing, is that a healthy thing since it seems like it pisses everyone off - broadcasters and news media are supposed to ruffle feathers - or is it at it's core poor quality journalism that annoys everyone in equal measure?

The thing is the left critique does have merit. Various people who've left the Beeb over the last several years have lamented the meddling of Robbie Gibb with the editorial side of news and current affairs programming.

The rightwing critique mainly stems from the skew of comedy and entertainment programming. Frankly I think that matters a good deal less even if it is present. Of course a number of them probably also think the news and current affairs stuff is skewed left, but then they think anything even a centimetre to the left of Thatcher is basically communism.

Just the right trying to bully the overton window into shifting their way.

There's a lot of right wing media and I mean a lot and they think of themselves as the baseline so actual centrist media get defined as left and bullied into platforming complete cranks in a misguided attempt to be balanced.

I see the same attitudes toward the CBC here... "left wing bias" but in the buildup to the election I feel I saw more stories on Conservative leader Pollievre that basically let him platform with little comment on facts related to some of his 'Canada is broken' claims. Did I take note of how many stories featured other party leaders? Not really.

Maybe these services are just, you know, balanced?

I can see why they removed comments from online articles and youtube with the amout of bile that gets typed (or added by bots).

So "if" the BBC is biased, which channels in the UK are not? Which news bulletins are more "truthful"?

I know GB News will be discounted here.

All relative. Maybe just slightly more balanced than the alternatives, whilst not overlooking the things it does get wrong.

When you look at the damage the US media sphere is helping to cause with rank propaganda and political opponents at each other's throats, I don't mind an organisation that pisses both sides off.

The BBC would be very well served if it separated the News organisation from the rest of the broadcast and production organisation. That way most of the controversy and criticism is detached from the body of content which which is broadcast and resold over the world.
And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?
