Im loving the look of this kid so far.
The lines he runs are superb and he seems to be able to step at top speed.
That try the other day for Canterbury was sexual. The last side step was just naughty.
Is it true he fell out of favour a bit at the highlanders?
Is Josh McKay a future Allblack?

He's talented for sure. But he's behind a logjam of players, at both 15 and 14.

Sad probably isn't the right word. He's too good not to get a SR contract somewhere in NZ. And his fall back plan will be to flee to easy rugby where he'll earn more than the AB captain. Not the worst 'Plan B'.JPNZ wrote: Wed Nov 11, 2020 7:52 pm The sad thing is he currently doesn't have a Super Rugby team to play for next year.

Talented player who has clearly left the Clan under a cloud. Ironic as he was their best player during the last month of Soup, and is Canterbury's best now. And the Clan have retained that useless long-haired lout Gregory, who can't catch a cold, and is as quick as I am :)
Yes. It’s not a case of whether you are good enough. It’s all about how good you are relative to the incumbents and other challengers. We have plenty of outside backs at the moment.Carter's Choice wrote: Wed Nov 11, 2020 7:24 pm He's talented for sure. But he's behind a logjam of players, at both 15 and 14.

He's been Canterbury's most consistently exciting back for a couple of seasons now, and it's criminal that the Clan haven't retained him given they're selecting from such outside back gems as Nabura, Gregory, and Collins.
Apparently he was a very good first-five at schoolboy level and it's a real shame we haven't seen that yet, especially while persisting with Brett Cameron for so long.
Don't think he'll ever be an All Black with so many in front of him, but he could be a pretty useful signing for the Blues next year I reckon with Beaudy in Japan. Would certainly have him ahead of Duffie/any of their 10s playing makeshift fullback. He'd be stuck behind Jordie/DMac/Havili/Jordan elsewhere so I reckon that'd be the best fit.

If Jason Holland wants to think outside of the box and do some clever recruiting then why not recruit McKay as a first-five for the Hurricanes? The have the worst 10 options of all the Super Rugby sides. Bachop is the current starter and he's as slow as a prop.. McKay played in the dual playmaker role for the Highlanders at 15 and often played 10 at trainings - so why not do something radical and sign him as a 10/15 dual play-making utility?Gumboot wrote: Fri Nov 13, 2020 1:59 am Pretty sure he played at first five for Christchurch Boys High.
Hmmm.....
BIG yes. He’s still deciding whether to plays Sevens next year or what should be a guaranteed starting spot on the wing with the Hurricanes. The Canes need to sign him long term ASAP

Agree re McKay as well. He couldn't possibly be any worse than the pedestrian Garden-Bachop.
Yep. He even has a suitable hairstyle....... well let's leave it at hair.Gumboot wrote: Sat Nov 21, 2020 10:58 pmAbsolutely.Monkey Magic wrote: Sat Nov 21, 2020 9:31 pmCanes should be throwing everything at getting fakatava north (so should the blues)

Makes him perfect fit for the blues. Crap peroxide is what we do nowTed. wrote: Sat Nov 21, 2020 11:07 pmYep. He even has a suitable hairstyle....... well let's leave it at hair.Gumboot wrote: Sat Nov 21, 2020 10:58 pmAbsolutely.Monkey Magic wrote: Sat Nov 21, 2020 9:31 pm

He's almost the perfect everywhere man. A Northland/Canterbury mullet, JAFA peroxide or a Welly peroxided mullet.Monkey Magic wrote: Sun Nov 22, 2020 12:11 amMakes him perfect fit for the blues. Crap peroxide is what we do now

100%. He's far too good to be stuck behind Aaron Smith (and sometimes Kayne Hammington). Looks every inch a future All Black halfback. Would walk right into the starting side at the Canes and Blues. I think the same about Aumua being stuck behind Coles (and sometimes Riccitelli).Monkey Magic wrote: Sat Nov 21, 2020 9:31 pmCanes should be throwing everything at getting fakatava north (so should the blues)
