The gesture for Maradona was nice but left me feeling a little iffy.

There was nothing for Cristophe Dominici , a player who gave them kittens in 1999 and was directly involved in historical matches of the same sport with the AB's.

Maradona while undoubtedly a global icon and an incredible football player (the best ever according to most) has been on an Amy Winehouse esque path of destruction for 40 years. He refused to acknowledge the existence of his own son in Naples until 2004 when a court ruled it and has been on the bag ( even on the pitch and dugout) for a few decades.

I don't recall Meads, Hayden for instance getting any sort of a send off.


Added to the above (for which im sure ill get pilloried) the Allblack social media team had the Haka and gesture uploaded to twitter and youtube while the match was still in progress.

Self praise is no praise no? I feel they are farming for likes the whole time.

As someone in the rag and bone trade I can tell you it meant a big deal to the Argies, so of course the ABs needed to acknowledge it.

No I think you are right my first reaction was cringe. Maradona had feck all to do with Rugby and was a mess of a human. 1 Min for Dominici would have been better IMO

A pretty pointless article - most people acknowledged in their obituaries that Maradona was a great footballer but a less than perfect human being.

Moreover its not as if the particular off pitch discretion was particularly significant to the story of his life unlike say, Mike Tyson raping Desiree Washington or OJ Simpson murdering his wife.

I have no issue with the gesture. I have issue with the social media team being so quick to go fishing for kudos. Read the thread title. You're jumping in front of bullets im not firing.
