They should have been DQd for using tape on the legs of their riders in the opening round. The UCI regulations are clear that this is not allowed, and state that, if this rule is broken, the set punishments are to be eliminated or disqualified. The other teams complained about the illegal use of tape by the Danish, but the UCI decided to ignore its own mandated sanctions, and simply issued the Danes with a warning and told them not to use the tape again.Openside wrote: Wed Aug 04, 2021 9:37 amThe Danish shouldn't have been DQ'd as as soon as they were 1M away the contest was over however the shitty way the Dane behaved post crash makes me very happy that they lostLobby wrote: Wed Aug 04, 2021 9:34 amWell done the Italians for beating them in the final.charltom wrote: Tue Aug 03, 2021 3:55 pm I would hope that the Dane who stood over Tanfield swearing at him, having knocked him down, at least has a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct. They are clearly excellent cyclists, the Danish pursuit team, but also cvnts on today's evidence.
Hilarious for me was when the BBC apologised for the Danish expletive... even though it was in Danish!
Some weird decisions from the judges in the velodrome. Denmark let off for two much more serious infringements that should really have seen them DQd, then Katy Marchant DQd after winning her heat this morning for coming down on the wheel a fraction early.

That really was a bit of tactical genius as Brazils Schitt is no slouch either. Needed to stop him finishing in the top 4 or something.inactionman wrote: Wed Aug 04, 2021 9:43 amExploiting their position to force their opponent to manoeuvre is a key part of racing - there are general sailing rules about who is the stand-on (the vessel who doesn't need to shift) and the give way. These are mostly to do with upwind/downwind and who is on port or starboard tack, some a bit arbitrary. Getting your opponent to have to make an undesirable manoeuvre is a pretty handy way to steal a march.
In the London Olympics Ben Ainslie just spent his last race blocking off his gold medal contender, forcing them to continually give way.
I've had a go at a few regattas and it's a further complication I really struggled with, I must tended to get the hell out of everyone else's way.
Also him overhauling the Dane who won the first 6 races in Rio was pretty impressive. They made him angry by launching an appeal.
I was merely commenting on the collision. Well done the Italians for beating them in the final.

It did prevent us racing for the Bronze medal though which we would have done had the mad Dane not rammed young CharlieOpenside wrote: Wed Aug 04, 2021 9:50 amI was merely commenting on the collision. Yes, they seem to be very courteous towards each other but I expect the judges come down on them hard if they are not.

He Matched Race a Fleet Race. It is actually done more frequently that you would expect and I have delivered and received the same in several regattas.JM2K6 wrote: Wed Aug 04, 2021 10:06 amAinslie's death stare as he finished one of the races really set the tone, it was pretty epic sportOpenside wrote: Wed Aug 04, 2021 9:49 amThat really was a bit of tactical genius as Brazils Schitt is no slouch either. OS - I suspect your belief on dinghy sailing being posh was more to do with your starting point. If you are a member of Burnham-On-Crouch or any Royal Yacht Club and that is your base case then yes sailing is posh. If your club was Chew Valley or say South Shields then posh it would not be.

But they should have been DQ'd for using non-permitted equipment in the qualifying round. No matter; I have to say that that Italian win was the thing that has made me happiest during these Olympics.Openside wrote: Wed Aug 04, 2021 9:37 amThe Danish shouldn't have been DQ'd as as soon as they were 1M away the contest was over however the shitty way the Dane behaved post crash makes me very happy that they lostLobby wrote: Wed Aug 04, 2021 9:34 amWell done the Italians for beating them in the final.charltom wrote: Tue Aug 03, 2021 3:55 pm I would hope that the Dane who stood over Tanfield swearing at him, having knocked him down, at least has a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct. Team sports maybe, but Track & fields has been a complete joke, only Kevin Mayer got a silver in Decathlon, same with swimming, Manaudou 50 m , this is it,laurent wrote: Thu Aug 05, 2021 2:33 pm French Men's handball volleyball and basketball in the Final

I really think all the lock downs with months of curfews had a very negative impact on the French athletes

Yep, what was it - winning 10 out of 12 sprints? They didn't even need to attempt gaining a lap even though it looked like a couple of times they could have done
Damn French ladies basketball lost to Japan so will play the losers final
Handball ladies won so that's a fantastic result already for team sports with 5 finalists out of 7 team that made it.
Counting the useless cretins at the FFF who for no good reason let the top clubs not release any players.

They did though - they did gain a lap along with the other two medallists, who only won their medals because of that lap gain.Saint wrote: Fri Aug 06, 2021 1:44 pmYep, what was it - winning 10 out of 12 sprints? GB had no need to, but were just so good. Nice prep, training against male U23 pairs!

I've seen "small ball" work before - fast breaks, outside shots, relentless D that keeps scoring low and wins a lot of turnovers - but not at the top level.
That's the second time they beat France (they did in the pool ) could not watch the game (too busy at work)Niegs wrote: Fri Aug 06, 2021 4:22 pmSorry, Japan basketball... ? I found a replay and at least checked out the anthems and some random bits of play. They DO have some tall women and apparently love a 3 pt shot.laurent wrote: Fri Aug 06, 2021 4:44 pmThat's the second time they beat France (they did in the pool ) could not watch the game (too busy at work)Niegs wrote: Fri Aug 06, 2021 4:22 pmSorry, Japan basketball... ? Ha ha
I see that the Italian who won the 100m was the only finalist not on the elite testing regime (because he hasn’t been elite until very recently) and one of his coaches has just been nicked for pushing steroids

I didn't make this, but will be joining the creator in Hell for how much I laughed at seeing it (not the actual crash, though... my face was this for about 30 seconds
)

Two crashes near the end... two of those poor women get completely run over!
