Yeah, I don’t see what value it adds if we just replace her maj with another politician, who’ll vie for votes.
Symbolically I get it - but I’ve a fear we’d be more likely to follow the American politicking presidents.
Otherwise, a democratically elected person will, necessarily, be political.
God bless you M’am

Some Royal Correspondent was on the radio informing us about the fun of the "People's Pageant" tomorrow, flagging up a highlight as "Dames in Jags".

Wife watched a bit of the show on YouTube afterwards, skipping 30 minutes, watching 2 minutes then skipping 30 minutes....
The canons shooting Harry and Megan was rather genius i must admit.
Brits, when Lizzy kicks the bucket, please vote for Kate to replace her. Would be a much better choice than Charles or even Will.

What unexpectedly fun day. Had a ton of fun, a bit wind, a shower of rain and then sunshine. Got a little sunburnt on my left arm, introduced the neighbours to Springboks.
Braai duties were good, music was decent.
A bit worse for wear today and off to a mate's for his birthday. Tomorrow is going to tough.

Sadly, shortly after this, undocumented immigrant Paddington Bear who arrived stowed away on a boat was handcuffed and put on the next flight to Kigali.Lady P wrote: Sun Jun 05, 2022 7:11 amPaddington Bear wrote: Mon May 30, 2022 4:05 pm A good innings. Not a bad Jubilee all told, our street party was actually a lot of fun with just about the whole road turning out. Was up in Northumberland earlier in the week and they'd gone all out with the bunting up there in quite a tasteful way.

As an aside, it's incredible how good the CGI is there. Lifelike, fully "present" and convincingly existing in the real world.Lady P wrote: Sun Jun 05, 2022 7:11 amPaddington Bear wrote: Mon May 30, 2022 4:05 pm A good innings. Absolutely, it’s a spectrum. There’s no way a democratically elected politician can be apolitical. Maybe if they were allowed one term, but then you’d have the pre and post presidency politics.GogLais wrote: Thu Jun 02, 2022 8:54 pmNobody including royals can be totally devoid of political opinions, it depends more what powers my hypothetical president has.Random1 wrote: Thu Jun 02, 2022 7:34 pmYeah, the most apolitical option is a hereditary monarchy. Going from statements in the press and from general third hand rumours and hearsay, it sounds like this could be it.
The other Royals are apparently heading up to Balmoral.
It appears no-one survives more than 5 minutes in the company of Liz Truss.

As someone who has lost both parents, though I'm anti-monarchist it's sad and worrying times for the family so let's hope for a recovery. If the worst happens I'm sure we can trust our government not to milk public grief to the max for their own benefit...inactionman wrote: Thu Sep 08, 2022 12:40 pm Going from statements in the press and from general third hand rumours and hearsay, it sounds like this could be it.

I think by the standards of the careful language used for the Queens health its obviously very serious with 'expectations being managed' about what the next few hours may bring.
Watched a bit of the BBC - the rolling news really does itself no favours in these situations - endless speculation by reporters standing outside Windsor - I mean what's the point?
Edit: Friend of a friend relatively high up in the CS says parts of 'London Bridge' already in motion, really does not sound good.

I mean she is 96 so obviously this was not unexpected - but holy bejesus - the UK without this Monarch.
I'm not a hardcore royalist - but the respect I have for that lady is pretty high. Regardless of all the wealth and privilege etc - her work ethic, energy and belief in her role is something to behold.
2022 possibly about to become even more rubbish.

It has the air of one of those announcements, that is designed as part of process, & this one is letting everyone know, it's now a matter of hours.tc27 wrote: Thu Sep 08, 2022 12:49 pm I think by the standards of the careful language used for the Queens health its obviously very serious with 'expectations being managed' about what the next few hours may bring.

Speculation rampant now on Twatter because the Beeb news team are wearing black, and claims of an announcement at 6pm

Looks like they're waiting for the family all to arrive before making the announcement, then Operation London Bridge will be full on. Lie in state at Holyrood House then a service at Canongate before being moved to Buckingham Palace.
And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?

(Except I'm probably a bit more of a Royalist),.
Is Charles definitely going to become King? Or will common sense prevail and William be the new KoE?
How long will the Poms keep screwing up the national anthem at sporting events by singing GSTQ instead of GSTK?

It's funny to think - everyone in my family who would have sung GSTK is dead, most have been for quite some time. To be followed by all sorts of loons claiming money won't be valid with the Queen's head on it etc. I remember being a kid in the seventies and there will still coins with George VI on them in circulation.Paddington Bear wrote: Thu Sep 08, 2022 2:30 pmIt's funny to think - everyone in my family who would have sung GSTK is dead, most have been for quite some time.
