It turns out that last nights meeting was a review panel who have referred the incident to a hearing on Wednesday night.Kiwias wrote: Mon Sep 19, 2022 8:18 amI had assumed it was in the daytime. Thanks

Was hoping Fourie get another chance. But nevermind as long as we do the job.

Willie will be great in 10. Like Willemse he played all his youth rugby in 10. Starting with Frans is actually great. He can build the innings, bring KLA in 15 move Willie to 10 when it open up. We'll need at least to win by 64 to win the tournament.
That’s assuming the Kiwis get a BP win over the Aussies. They probably will, but if they don’t then a BP win by a small margin should do the trick.OomStruisbaai wrote: Tue Sep 20, 2022 1:59 pm Willie will be great in 10. Pity he can't be grilled under oath as per intent.
It is surely not coincidental that Rennie teams forever seem to adopt a 'Take no Prisoners' attitude.
Havili had gone off with a head knock, and if Tupaea too could be incapacitated then an AB backline shuffle might lead to an AB defensive-attacking misalignment.
So did Swain come on with specific instructions? ... because it looks from the footage that Swain may have initially targeted Tupaea's head before finishing him off at the leg.
And of course post-match Rennie dismissed the incident as not even worth a yellow.

Hope the Wallabies keep up the physical stuff on saturday.
Frans is evergreen. He may not be the youngest but at least he can kick at poles. We may actually see more of our backline getting the ball in space with the way he likes to take the ball up and keep defenders busy. You just know that he won't disappoint. What I am dissapointed in is management not bringing in Libbok or Chris months ago. There was plenty of opportunity. And don't think Argentina is going to be a rollover. They had a really off day last week. They are going to come hard at us to spoil the party. They may not see a way through Frans but will definitely spread it wide or over the defensive line and have some real energy in their backline. I feel we are more concerned about how much we need to beat them by than the threat the Argies are going to pose. These blokes beat the ABs and Aussies at home. Durban is not a stronghold. It's seen many upsets.assfly wrote: Tue Sep 20, 2022 10:16 am I'm actually quite excited about seeing Steyn at 10 and what he can bring.

Knowing that a 4-game ban would mean Swain couldn't participate in any of the end of year tour tests, Australia has cynically just chosen him for Australia A's 3 games against Japan next month ... leaving him with potentially just one Autumn series stand-down.

Yes, it's 6 weeks apparently.
One against the ABs on Saturday, three against (sic) Japan in October, miss two on northern tour and so still be available for two Autumn tests.

He's been suspended for six weeks, up to and including 6 November (the day of the Paris test). That still leaves the tests against Italy, Ireland and Wales. The prick should've been banned for the rest of the year, imho.convoluted wrote: Wed Sep 21, 2022 9:58 pm Yes, it's 6 weeks apparently.

If only calendar weeks, then he could go feral again in that last test against Wales and simply sit out subsequent suspension through the off-season.

We could read this as Taylor being told it's his last chance to press for the Autumn tour or he gets discarded.
If things go haywire on Saturday with his lineout throws, they can quickly revert back to Taukei'aho.

Which means the scumbag will be available to play against Italy (Nov 13), Ireland (Nov 20) and Wales (Nov 27).The six matches of Swain’s suspension will include Australia’s upcoming clash with the All Blacks at Eden Park on Saturday, three games on the Japan tour, plus Tests against Scotland (October 29) and France (November 5).

I've said for years that suspensions should be served at the level they're incurred... so if you're in the Test squad and get rubbed out for 6 weeks, that's 6 tests. Too many players are out for a few games that are served at club level, which is bullshit.Gumboot wrote: Thu Sep 22, 2022 3:23 amSame diff...convoluted wrote: Thu Sep 22, 2022 3:10 amSurely it has to be actual game weeks.Gumboot wrote: Wed Sep 21, 2022 11:05 pm He's been suspended for six weeks, up to and including 6 November (the day of the Paris test). I also think that with the way the game is going image wise, with the focus swinging to long term injury and a clampdown on head contact as a result, that anyone causing injury to a player through their own 'carelessness' should be out of the game until the player they injure is back to availability.

That would be the nuclear option, and I kind of like it myself. But I worry it might have some unforeseen consequences, e.g., lead to an avoidance of cleanouts at breakdowns and turn rugby into an extended version of league (with unlimited tackles rather than 6).Guy Smiley wrote: Thu Sep 22, 2022 3:40 amI've said for years that suspensions should be served at the level they're incurred... so if you're in the Test squad and get rubbed out for 6 weeks, that's 6 tests. Also, if a player retires after an injury caused by foul or reckless play, does that mean the offender is banned for life?

Should have been 6 months not 6 weeks.
Why has he beenm selected for the Aussie A team in Japan. Is it just to cover part of the suspension period?
It's going to come down to how well Frans plays at 10. My feeling is he'll make some errors and maybe some howlers, but overall he'll do okay. We're going to need him at his very best to put up a big score though which I'm not sure about, he has the tools to do well distributing with long passes/cross field kicks/offloads in the tackle, but hasn't played 10 in a big match for a long time.
Kicking from hand I expect him to give a big advantage to the Boks, I wonder how many 50/22 kicks he'll get, probably the best option with him at 10 if the Boks are just inside our half. Maybe that could be enough even if he has an average game.

His fitness is the major concern for me. And with a 6-2 split on the bench, it's all a bit risky._Os_ wrote: Thu Sep 22, 2022 11:58 am It's going to come down to how well Frans plays at 10. Frans will be good. We must use his boot to build an innings and to get us close.
That 6-2 split is insanity. Especially with the way our backline players have been dropping.LoveOfTheGame wrote: Thu Sep 22, 2022 12:34 pmHis fitness is the major concern for me. Actually listening to Genia etc on rugby pod other night, I then thought that Barrett would get 12 gig, only option really is RTS, and that puts all kicking responsiblity back on Smith and RMo, doesn't really cause the confusion in defence.Ymx wrote: Thu Sep 22, 2022 8:10 pm Jordie at 12 eh.
Well ….. I guess there are injuries.
But are we really doing this? I guess we always need two Barrett’s?!
Obviously pleased we are still with R’Mo at 10. He did well with his public support of Foster.

I’ve changed my thinking.
Wallabies will break the Eden Park hoodoo this week. Anything different would go right against the grain of Fozzie’s groundbreaking record.
