Whole team has lifted since he came on. Price’s pass zippier, forwards looking past the big bosch, wide players picking lines knowing he will hit them

Yeah, but it’s easier to try out the flashy stuff when the game’s already won.Tichtheid wrote: Fri Oct 23, 2020 8:03 pm There’s little point in countless driving maul tries, Wales won’t concede those.

It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
Cummings has that dynamism.
Surprising to see a galloping run from Toolis, but a typically good game from him in the tight exchanges. I know fans don't seem to rate him, but coaches seem to put some value on him.
Thought he was very good at the breakdown, decent as a ball carrier and obviously excellent in the lineout. Good all round. He and Cummings complement each other I think.robmatic wrote: Fri Oct 23, 2020 8:25 pmCummings has that dynamism.

And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?

I thought he should have put his head down and gone for it, would have been an awesome try
Well, what have we learned tonight?
Primarily, how much we have missed Finn Russell. Any team would, to be fair, but although Hastings is a talented player (didn’t have a good game tonight though) he just isn’t at the same level. Finn comes on and suddenly the back line starts purring.
Kebble and VdW both did exactly what we expected them to do. Which is nice.
Lang was anonymous. Is Scott injured? If not, how Lang gets a game ahead of him at 12 is... bizarre. (I know Johnson was left out for this game).
Hope Fagerson’s injury isn’t a bad one.
Toolis and Cummings both had solid games.
Do we have enough to beat Wales? Heart says yes, head says we never perform in away matches and I’ve seen no sign that is likely to change next week.

To be fair, I think Hastings is roughly at the same level as Finn was at this point in his career.
That may be fair comment.Tichtheid wrote: Fri Oct 23, 2020 8:40 pmYr Alban wrote: Fri Oct 23, 2020 8:30 pm Well, what have we learned tonight?

When Russell was 23, this happened
Ach, bollocks, he was 25. Sorry

Can’t agree with that. Finn was frustrating as fuck but he always had that level above. Don’t get me wrong, I rate Hastings, but he won’t get to Finn level.Tichtheid wrote: Fri Oct 23, 2020 8:40 pmYr Alban wrote: Fri Oct 23, 2020 8:30 pm Well, what have we learned tonight?

Game was fine, some poor bits, some good bits. Restarts though.... how can we be so consistently crap at restarts.

When I saw Hastings at U20s level I thought he reminded me of Russell, but in fact with more pace.
I stand by my assessment, two years ago Finn and Now Finn are two different players, I'd like to give Adam Hastings the chance to grow into a similar advancement

I was swearing at the restarts. That will cost us dearly against better opposition.
We could really do with a solid-but-dependable second-choice 10, but I don’t think Hastings will ever be that. He is similar to Finn, but doesn’t have Finn’s X-Factor. Unless he kicks on in the next year or two, he’s going to remain an injury (or tantrum) replacement rather than a genuine second option.

I think Weir is that, for the Plan B side of things.
He was the victim of timing at Edinburgh, new coach and a long injury, Cockers only realised what he'd let go after the deal was done.
I'd bite your hand off for Weir at Embra now

Isn't testing your forwards against their Georgian counterparts the only utility to a match against Georgia? It's comfortably their strongest area, so to actually make the game a challenge or to learn things about your team it seems like the best place to focus.Tichtheid wrote: Fri Oct 23, 2020 8:03 pm There’s little point in countless driving maul tries, Wales won’t concede those.

Yeah there are two positives to doing that - first as you say, test your pack against their strong point and second it doesn't give anything away as to what you might have up your sleeve.
Georgia scored a try from a mistake from us, other than that it was one way traffic.
I don't mean to do a disservice to Georgia, but we should have scored more from the tempo, the possession, the field position and the momentum of the match.
We lack the ruthlessness of the best sides, always have done.
Relegated to extended highlights, took us a while to start raining in the tries but concerned that those catch-and-drive mauls will be completely ineffective against a decent welsh outfit. However, back 3 looked lovely and the forwards were decent. I'm still not 100% sure about Ali Price at 9, really seems to have lost the zip he had 2-3 years ago- maybe a maturation of his game?
Is the Cardiff match being played in an empty stadium? That would significantly improve our chances.

9-10-12 not exactly spectacular. Instant uplift when Russell came on added to by Horne's pace. I'd love to see Scott or Hutch added to that axis.
I think that’s way to harsh on Hastings. He did a great job while Finn was away and must have been under a lot of pressure last night with his return.Yr Alban wrote: Fri Oct 23, 2020 9:11 pm I was swearing at the restarts. That will cost us dearly against better opposition.

He is an excellent player who currently has periods where he loses his way. He’s also being compared to possibly the best player in Europe at the moment so I think it needs a bit of perspective

My main criticism of him is his indecision, gets caught in two minds too often but he is a decent player.Slick wrote: Sat Oct 24, 2020 5:05 amI think that’s way to harsh on Hastings. Its a fair point about his comparison to Russell but I'd rather have Weir on the bench as a different option.
Adding to the post-Gatland period, you've got to say this is a (relatively) good chance for us. However, I'm overly cautious after that 2018 debacle- fancied us to win that. Not even the 10 pints I consumed in the Pirates Sports Bar in Jo'burg that day could wash away those memories; made the additional error of telling my saffer mates (pre-match) that I thought we were good for the win. My, how they laughed.
Defence is far superior now so we'll have to wait and see.
And on the 7th day, the Lord said "Let there be Finn Russell".

Handy win but wont be looking too much into it, acccording to big Jim in the pre-match chat a good number of the Georgian team havent played since Feb/March and we at times looked rusty as fuck too.
Wales match we will see where we are at, although in the Covid era everything just seems weird and with no atmosphere it really detracts from the spectacle.
Tactically i do like the idea of us being able to go with 2 10's as it gives us a different attacking option, not one that I think we should over use like England but useful to have up the sleeve as an option.

So young Darcy now has 14 tries in 14 games for Scotland
