No, its a good example how things that dopn't really matter derail your chances... the clinton leaked emails had nothing in it but it derailed her chances, the Biden porn has nothing to with Joe but it will surely derail his chances cause majority of americans are fucking stupid..

And don’t remember Trump saying it, but this time the rumours come from the Democratic side.
And to me, the idea of the increasing the number of justices is silly as it could just land up with the others increasing it again when they get control again.
They ended up at 9 effectively by accident, as part of a process to stop Andrew Jackson naming additional SCOTUS judges while his impeachment was ongoing . The number has been as low as 5 and as high as 10Fangle wrote: Sun Oct 25, 2020 6:02 pmI’ve no idea how they got to nine. What's this all about then? I'm not the conspiracy type at all usually - but that don't look like Melania, Assuming she's still home recovering because she didn't get all the ground breaking treatment that the fat one got? And of course that wouldn't be good for the public to know/ perceive. So a fake to make it look like she's doing fine and everything's rosy and Covid is a big nothing.

It's a fair point. The right have been so outrageous that the left have been left with no recourse but to fight fire with fire. Biden's big challenge if he wins will be to pull the US back from the brink without giving the far right a "casus belli" to incite further violence.Tichtheid wrote: Wed Oct 28, 2020 9:38 amBiffer wrote: Wed Oct 28, 2020 8:45 am If you hate the woke, vote for Biden

Everything points to a clear democrat victory at all levels giving them complete control in both houses and the white house as Obama had for a couple of years.
My big hope is that whoever wins, it is a clear victory. I don’t want legal battles and recount after recount. And if it’s still close, I foresee trouble in the streets.

I agree. It has to be decisive; but as with 2012, I doubt the GOP will follow through on the inevitable introspection and move back to the center. My guess is the next incarnation of the Tea Party fueled by their Q-anon fever dream will push them even further into the far right.Fangle wrote: Wed Oct 28, 2020 11:47 am Everything points to a clear democrat victory at all levels giving them complete control in both houses and the white house as Obama had for a couple of years.

What will be interesting, if the Dems get a sweep, is how many measures they will be able to push through in 2 years to cement power like the GOP managed to do for the last 6.
Kill the filibuster? Remove the electoral college? Statehood for DC and Puerto Rico? 2 extra judges on the SC to offset the effect of the Garland seat that McConnell stole?
And once control has been somewhat cemented pursue their healthcare, immigration, environmental and other reforms. No point in spending 2 years building on anything if the GOP are just going to tear it down again next cycle.

I saw yesterday that Kavanagh has already been looking at Bush v. Gore and, if it's a close race (and even if it's not) I think they'll try everything they can to give Trump a second term. I see, too, that the BBC thinks that Biden has lost ground to Trump over the last few days and that there could be a surge in favour of the incumbent.
God help us.
That would be the safe bet sure, but maybe they'll learn from the last 2012, realise they are going to be called socialists regardless of what they do, avoid trying to compromise with the GOP since they won't be acting in good faith anyway, and just ram through some measures to ensure they at least control the senate for the foreseeable future.Saint wrote: Wed Oct 28, 2020 12:55 pm My prediction is that the Dems will enact some centrist measures while the GOO accuse them of being socialists, then lose the Senate in 2 years time

One hates to be too disparaging of Americans, but if they vote him in for a second term, they deserve all the shit that's coming to them.
Not sure where they've got that from (did they explain that?). 538 have a nice election forecasting site, that's been using all the polling data, local and national to forecast the win....40,000 simulations a day. What that shows, apart from them giving Trump an 11% chance of victory, is that Trump has been polling downwards since Sept 1st. He was a 31% chance at that point and has been gradually heading down, with consistent drops week on week. It's not a given...11% is still too much of a chance for comfort, particularly when we take the supreme court and willingness to cheat into the equation, but the chance of a big Biden win is there. The fact that they suggest momentum is with Biden seems important to me too.Rinkals wrote: Wed Oct 28, 2020 1:02 pm

As they put it
Bloomberg getting involved in races like Texas will hopefully give Biden some kind of shock surge to a big win and it cuts Trump off at the knees. I don't think it's likely but a man can hope. We’re in the last full week before Election Day, and Joe Biden leads in both national and state polls. At this point, though, President Trump needs a big polling error in his favor if he's going to win. Although, not as big as you might think looking at national polls. Take Pennsylvania, the state our forecast thinks is most likely to decide the election. Biden doesn’t have extra cushion in polls there, so a 2016-magnitude polling error could deliver the state to Trump. Remember, Trump has a meaningful chance of winning the election, per our forecast — a little worse than the chances of rolling a 1 on a six-sided die and a little better than the chances that it’s raining in downtown Los Angeles. And remember, it does rain there.

I think the Rubicon has already been crossed with the plot against the Michigan governor. Any moves towards the centre will be met with resistance from increasingly militant far rightists.
Any moves to clamp down on them will be painted as oppression.
I am nervous of the health plan which might be enacted.
When the ACA was implemented for which Obama said you would be able to keep your service providers, it didn’t work out that way. My wife was unemployed and had her private insurance. If she had not stayed private, she would not have been able to keep her doctors, and over a couple of years her premium more than doubled in instead of slowly decreasing as it had been.
And yesterday I was looking for a cheaper Medicare plan. The one available limited my providers to my local area meaning that I could no longer use the hospital/clinic who were treating my condition.
