Is it going to break or not?
Concrete Gravity Dam type. Some rumours about saying it’s potentially a shitstorm waiting to flood. Total capacity 39.3 km3, hundreds of millions downstream.
Any experts on here to explain the technicalities?
So, this Three Gorges Dam ...

Probably, you reckon he could punch the water back in?
If it's on the right areas of the pitch then without doubt.
He'd only have to give it a withering stare..bessantj wrote: Wed Jul 08, 2020 4:30 pmIf it's on the right areas of the pitch then without doubt.
I love watching little children running and screaming, playing hide and seek in the playground.

Do you have a link to these operators sounding confident please?Un Pilier wrote: Wed Jul 08, 2020 5:47 pm It’s operators are sounding confident. Apparently it’s dealt with flow rates of 70,000 cubic meters per second in the past. That’s a lorra, lorra water.

If that happens the Ozzies would want to man the barricades, because they aren't going to just stay where they are & drown, & starve.New guy wrote: Wed Jul 08, 2020 7:34 pm Read somewhere that if the Dam did burst it would displace 400 million. Staggering number when you think about it.

It wasn’t this specifically but the longer article behind it. If you google you should find it easily enough.
Hydrologist here.
I have no qualms about the design of the dame. In theory, it should work well. It's a big bastard though and dams can only hold so much water.
I am, however, rather sceptical of the quality of workmanship.

Payback for Covid19. Karma is a bitch.
I'd say there was more short cuts taken during that construction. The Chinese prioritise time and cost over quality.Thommo wrote: Wed Jul 08, 2020 10:23 pm Hydrologist here.

Chinese construction may be lacking where it comes to health and safety and workers rights, but generally it is designed and constructed well. They may take short cuts with workers lives, but generally not with construction standards.
I'm entertained by the image of these three ladies bursting out and forcing millions of Chinese from their homes.stemoc wrote: Thu Jul 09, 2020 12:57 am i thought this was a thread of three Gorgeous dames, Helen Mirren, Jessica Ennis-Hill, and Emma Thompson :(
