A couple of new additions that are worth trying.
Pressure drop's fashion, a london porter at 6.5%. Very good example of the style, nothing flashy about it.
The queer beer project have just launched 3 of their own beers rather than collaborations. Whatever you think of lily, she knows her stuff. I even enjoyed the wit, which is not a favourite style of mine
The pale and the pilsner are excellent

Wit doesn't usually do it for me but then I used to say that about Saison/Grisettes and the Grisette from Duration was one of my favourite beers last year. I'll give it a whirl. Lily used to work in my local beer shop so I know her a bit.Happyhooker wrote: Fri Feb 05, 2021 11:48 am A couple of new additions that are worth trying.

I have almost finished the lockdown box from BBNo. Mostly very good. The pilsner was the least interesting, the Imperial Gose probably the best.
Thought the PD London Porter was bloody good!!Happyhooker wrote: Fri Feb 05, 2021 11:48 am A couple of new additions that are worth trying.

Just had a mixed box delivered including a 10.2% ABV Verdant/Pohjala collaboration Baltic Porter!! Bought it on spec and never had a Baltic Porter before, should I expect anything different compared to a usual Porter?

Won my first ever Pussbook competition earlier. St Andrews Brewing Co had a crate of beer to give away.
3x Yippee IPA - had this before, really like it.
3x Lager - also had this before and like it.
3x Currant Affairs - not a huge fan of stouts but can have the odd 1, not tried it yet.
3x Wild Ferm - a sour lager, drinking it as I type. Nice enough but seems a bit flat.

Hahaha. Fairly local company, one of theirpubs is in Dundee. Decent bar, do plenty of guest stuff too.Happyhooker wrote: Fri Feb 05, 2021 9:43 pmi might need a little lie down. i've not had any of thoseJock42 wrote: Fri Feb 05, 2021 7:57 pm Won my first ever Pussbook competition earlier. Definitely recommend Yippee IPA if you come across it. Everything else is drinkable, as I say I'm not a fan of stouts so my opinion counts for fuck all.

Went on holiday to Skye last year and very much enjoyed the stuff from the local brewery. Ordered a crate having seen an advert for it - something of the local lager tastes amazing sat on a sunlounger in Europe but is just lager in a can back home effect. A bit disappointed

Fuck me, I've never had a lager quite like it!!! Poured like engine oil, was beautifully (dangerously) smooth lovely deep malts and not sweet at allHappyhooker wrote: Fri Feb 05, 2021 7:41 pmWell it's technically a lager....SaintK wrote: Fri Feb 05, 2021 3:29 pmThought the PD London Porter was bloody good!!Happyhooker wrote: Fri Feb 05, 2021 11:48 am A couple of new additions that are worth trying.

It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

They're both pretty decent from what I've had of them (admittedly not much)
Got given a mixed crate of howling hops beers the other day. Only had a couple so far, but the buckle down is a very nice pale and, although not my favourite style, the American brown was excellent - called we buy teeth

Isle of Skye. Were you up there during the summer? The same beer drunk after a warm day's walking up the old man will taste very different to one drunk after today's weather

Weather was shite but having a couple after walking 20 miles+ definitely made a difference.Happyhooker wrote: Sun Feb 07, 2021 11:12 pm Were you up there during the summer? The same beer drunk after a warm day's walking up the old man will taste very different to one drunk after today's weather

Look what turned up today... Review in the next couple of days.
<edit> The Baltic Porter is really good. A decent extra bitterness over the Imperial Brown Stout but still much of the same rich character. Expensive though.

Glad you enjoyed it. I'm not really aware of the price factor, I rarely pay for their beers and if I do, my local londis sells them at a flat rate of £2.50 per bottle, no matter what strength/size

Dinsdale. Forgot to mention that lost and grounded are now making a helles, launching on the 18th. My mate who works there says they're very very happy with it, so put it on your watchlist

I'm impressed if your Londis is selling for just over half what Kernel sell it for. Very envious :)
I love a good Helles - I've just ordered 40 bottles of Augustiner - but as Lost & Grounded are so good I'll get some for research purposes. Cheers for the tip.

She does indeed remember you and says hello.
A bit more mainstream than the lagers mentioned above, but brewdog's lost lager is perfectly acceptable and is currently offered at 48 cans for £40 which is a pretty good deal.

can someone come round and take the rest of my kernel baltic porter off my hands, otherwise i'm going to struggle to get up for work.
it is seriously good.
the other decent beers from the weekend mostly came from boxcar brewery. not had a duff beer from them yet. would seriously recommend everything i've tried from there over the last few months.
the final beer to recommend is the L&G helles i mentioned above. my mate sent me an early release. it's excellent

Gower Brewery are doing some fantastic bottled beers atm, as are Evan Evans, (ex Buckleys family)..
I love watching little children running and screaming, playing hide and seek in the playground.
They don't know I'm using blanks..

I'm a big fan of Dark Star brewery, they started in the basement of a pub here. Over lockdown I've bought a few mini kegs from them, the APA is always good, there was a bitter which doesn't seem to be available now.
Hophead has been a huge success for them, the bottles are available to order and in retrospect it's a better way to buy, rather than the minikegs.

Another local brewery is Harvey's of Lewes, I love their draught Best, it is a great pint, but I haven't tried their bottles yet.

Dark Star and Harveys - two of my favourites. Harveys Sussex is about as good an example of a traditional best bitter as you can get.Tichtheid wrote: Mon Mar 08, 2021 8:48 pm I'm a big fan of Dark Star brewery, they started in the basement of a pub here. Weren't they bought out by Fullers some years ago to extend their range of craft beers? Now owned by Asahi who hopefully won't mess with the brewing

Yes. If you drink Hophead in a pub in London it's likely made in Chiswick and I don't think it's as good. This happened before the Asahi takeover.SaintK wrote: Tue Mar 09, 2021 8:52 amWe've had Dark Star a few times at my club, very drinkable!Dinsdale Piranha wrote: Mon Mar 08, 2021 11:28 pmDark Star and Harveys - two of my favourites. Anspach and hobday are 7 and they're doing an imperial Baltic porter. 9%. It's fucking outstanding.
Also, a new one to me recently was the boxcar dark mild. Really really good as well.
Re darkstar, their APA (American Pale) was one of the beers that really got me into beer, alongside jaipur (both cask).
Asahi seem to be leaving the brewers alone for the most part from what I hear. I can't really comment on hop head recently, I haven't had a pint of it for at least 18 months
