I'm currently in Stellenbosch, thousands of students have invaded the town, no social distancing and minimal mask wearing.
Have you tried that new restaurant Cuccino...I did it
No, the restaurant looks nice though. Sadly, we haven't been eating out as much as before the pandemic. I do feel bad for everyone working in that industry.

Fangle wrote: Thu Mar 11, 2021 10:00 pm My wife has Covid. Four years ago she had a stroke weakening her left side mainly but she got to walking fine. On Monday she showed flu-like symptoms like high temperature and sore throat which we treated with ice packs etc. and since then her temperature wasn’t much above normal. But she was getting weaker and couldn’t walk to the loo. We thought it was a mini-stroke and called the ambulance.

On admission they always test for Covid and she was positive. CAT scans showed no brain change. So all the weakness must be due to Covid. She is in ICU and looks stable. I have no symptoms as yet, have had a test (results in 48 hours), and am self-isolating.

On checking all the people we have been in contact with - fairly few - I found that one of the house cleaners has covid as well. They were here last Tuesday and we tried to stay in different rooms from them. Not too well, apparently. Wife is stable.

There were 6 articles about Willemse by SA Rugby magazine this weekend...I wish the real players in the Stormers side got a tenth of that attention....

Stormers coach...Willemse has natural ability in abundance
Both Bosch and Willemse have value to add
Then 4 articles on the Willemse snub by the Bulls
Damien Willemse...I am happier here
Bulls set to lose tug of war over Willemse
Jake White...Papier , Goosen, Stravino and Willemse could make one helluva backline
Damien Willemse...WP is my home

Yep; 7-day average for the period 12-18 March creeping up slightly from 1,140 per day to 1,257 per day.
It is still lower than it was at any point between our first and second waves.
Could just be a single cluster outbreak somewhere, but something to keep an eye on.

7-day positivity rate still holding steady at 4.3% so it's not all doom and gloom...yet.

I suspect that should the average creep to to 1,500, they will start instituting Level 3 restrictions, curfews and alcohol restrictions.
Those 3 measures seem to be the most effective at stamping out embers.

Easter will be a real test case for us.

The mass exodus to the Eastern Cape and Moria (if the ZCC doesn't cancel it) have the potential of jump starting our 3rd wave if not handled carefully.

My mind was blown first time I saw Port Owen, it really is a lovely place. My pet hate about the West Coast is the water, it's freezing.

Water was around 20 degrees....thats in the Marina.....kids were in the water all day. It is getting chilli at night tho....
I got accommodation on the water at the Marina...2 beds , braai area on the river , everything 5 star...R 1000.00 a night.
You go this weekend its almost triple...I always try to go away to avoid the popular weekends....

Discovered my one cousin has a house on the marina too.........he bought early...now the plots alone are 1.7 bar on the water....and around 3 bar to build a house.....You can get a 4 bedroomed house around 4 bar.

Looking forward to having a relaxing weekend this weekend....on monday I was shot....complete waste of human flesh...

My kids have been to many holiday destinations around the Western Cape.....they kept saying Port Owen was their best holiday yet......
Best thing for me was the short drive....if you are looking for a getaway I can recommend my mates place where we stayed.....1k fir 4 people a night off peak is a steal.

I was also blown away. At the bottom of the pic to the right of the waterway is the yacht club. Going up to the top of the channel you have a stretch of A frame apartments. Just around the corner of those A frames is my mates place. For R150.00 we were allowed access to all the toys for the weekend for the entire family. That included paddle boats...great fun for a meander around to see the homes along the channels. Canoes, SUP boards , access to the infinity pool which is private. Access to the play rooms which has pool, foozball and table tennis. Right there is Charlies for a decent meal. The kids were never ever bored. Of course there's fishing too. Who knew that for such value you could have such an awesome weekend getaway. Winters are foul there so it only really works in summer. There are pubs everywhere. 18 along one stretch. Apparently they are serious drinkers. It's all big money. My cousins jetty in front of his home cost 130k. He has a catamaran and a sunseeker motor boat moored there he was flogging at one stage for 2.4 bar but got no takers. He was taking a knock. They reckon there's no point owning a home there unless you have some bling on the water in front of your home. Some interesting tenants there. The deputy ANC youth league member has a home accross from my cousin. He reckons they used to have wild parties there. Booze in crates. But now the money has dried up and the home is in need of maintenance and they haven't been around for a year and a bit. I suppose that's good news for South Africa. Some really salty types around. Very popular with the English. The pound buys you a great lifestyle. I could go on but am bored of hitting a keyboard with my thumb

Tanzanian president Magafuli has died of "heart failure".

Probably died about a week ago and they've been scrambling around to try and get ready to respond.

Rot in hell. His position of denial lead to the unnecessary deaths of thousands of Tanzanians. Even before Covid he was driving a once-progressive country back to the stone ages. Let's hope they can get back on track.

Just a pity Covid didn’t take out Bolsenaro or Trump or at the very least leave them with long term side affects.

Wait, so calling out a dictator that opposes democracy; murders political opponents and critics; props up his corrupt regime through fear, intimidation and bribery and actively funded the killing of American troops in Afghanistan and spearheaded a disinformation campaign to foment social division during the American election is considered a bad thing?

Putin’s Russia is hostile to NATO and the USA and are still occupying Crimea. Fuck him.

Were you also a fan of Zuma-buddy Putin when they tried to scam SA taxpayers into an obscenely overpriced nuclear powerplant?

Putin is a murdering gangster in a suit funder but Russian crime lord billionaires. Fuck him. Glad Biden had the balls to call him out.

On PR they are discussing how people end up believing in conspiracy theories, and one poster noted that it is mostly people who are unbelievably thick, but think they are incredibly intelligent.

I think this analogy describes Sards rather eloquently

I don’t know about that. AC is a troll, but he is a skilled troll. His bait is carefully crafted with just enough truth to warrant a bite and heated debate. Ox Wagon and Real Crusader used to be the same. A controversial position with a hint of truth, and a sprinkling of spice. Quality trolling.

Sards’ trolling is more hamfisted. He fishes with dynamite and thinks he is skilled. When in reality he is just loud and persistent enough that posters engage out of frustration.
