You can take the boi out of the valleys but.......
1) The key point is the trolls targeting their own players. Not the same as the death threats Genge received from Welsh social meejuh users where the target was opposition.GogLais wrote: Mon Mar 22, 2021 9:47 am So we have trolls like every other country, big deal. I don’t think anyone in NPR has moaned about France’s win but if posting this sort of rubbish makes you feel better then carry on I suppose.

Trolls aren’t known for their discrimination in who they attack as a visit to Everton FC’s forum would show. I expect the likes of WoL to publish attention seeking shit stirring bollocks but I thought better of this place.Torquemada 1420 wrote: Mon Mar 22, 2021 10:31 am1) The key point is the trolls targeting their own players. 2) NPR is tiny. How many Welsh posters? 10? Highly representative.
3) And what relevance is that anyway? I posted it as something rugby related having seen it on Midol (a little bigger than NPR and they thought is was newsworthy) and then on WalesOnLine which, presumably, thought the same. Maybe you should email both news agencies and voice your concerns about publishing rubbish simply to make them feel better?![]()
I'm actually flabbergasted. I can't speculate on WOL but I can be sure Midol wasn't publishing it for sh*t stirring. Quite the reverse and the French side sent messages of support.GogLais wrote: Mon Mar 22, 2021 10:57 am Trolls aren’t known for their discrimination in who they attack as a visit to Everton FC’s forum would show. In part, I lack sympathy with celebrities who use such media tools. Clearly a large motivation for being on there is "look at me. I want to be adored" but if you are going to expose yourself that deeply then you have to expect to attract the loons too.Niegs wrote: Mon Mar 22, 2021 11:29 am I've never really thought about it until seeing that collection of tweets, but I wonder how athletes filter out that sort of garbage? I'm a big fan of Conan O'Brien and he says he never looks at tweets aimed at him, just sends a funny messages out or advertises the show.
I imagine athletes are using it to connect with mates in sport and in real life, so you'd have to see the personal attacks, right?
... imagine being such a dickhead/obsessed with sport that you'd personally call out an athlete with something so hateful. I've only ever @'d someone twice and it was completely 'this lad should be in the side' type thing, both times got a 'like'![]()
If I knew where to look I’m sure I could start a thread about something unpleasant and rugby related that someone from most, maybe all, countries had said or posted. But why would I bother?Torquemada 1420 wrote: Mon Mar 22, 2021 11:05 amI'm actually flabbergasted. I can't speculate on WOL but I can be sure Midol wasn't publishing it for sh*t stirring. And highlighting a wendyball forum!
a) Routine scumbag behaviour from wendyball "fans". Who'd have though it eh?
b) But worse, you appear to be indicating that you think this is normal. Ergo, you think such behaviour should be ignored?![]()
So, you'd struggle to find the very thing you attribute as being routine amongst all nations? I like your defence style counsel. Would you like to approach the bench because your client would like a word.GogLais wrote: Mon Mar 22, 2021 11:41 am If I knew where to look I’m sure I could start a thread about something unpleasant and rugby related that someone from most, maybe all, countries had said or posted. I’d in your words struggle to find it because it’s not a part of the internet I visit. If you’re saying us Welsh are unique in this aspect then so be it. Maybe the press decided it was a good story because it would go online and carry on the argument.Torquemada 1420 wrote: Mon Mar 22, 2021 12:44 pmSo, you'd struggle to find the very thing you attribute as being routine amongst all nations? Presumably all the press internationally that picked up on this decided either
- it was voluminous beyond the normal troll noise associated with any nation
- or it was of a degree significantly higher to merit flagging it
What da ya reckon?
Stockdale spoke about the effect criticism on social media had on him.Niegs wrote: Mon Mar 22, 2021 11:29 am I've never really thought about it until seeing that collection of tweets, but I wonder how athletes filter out that sort of garbage? It's not right really but players need to accept that they need to be careful in how they use social media.
Yeah. Now you are bending what has been said. I doubt anyone would suggest the Welsh were unique (because all absolutisms are wrong........ see what I did there?) but the fact remains that the nature of this particular behaviour was enough to hit intl media.GogLais wrote: Mon Mar 22, 2021 12:53 pm I’d in your words struggle to find it because it’s not a part of the internet I visit.
