Perfect sense....in a real world.Chilli wrote: Tue Mar 30, 2021 6:26 amYou don't think that Clubs are the way forward?Sards wrote: Mon Mar 29, 2021 3:52 pmLook you won't find argument from me that sport is farked here in Province. Our cricket is a complete joke. Covid has played its part but in general.....sheets.....
The only efficient organization is the KFC mini cricket.
I feel desperately sorry for the kids...end of this year my older son will have to leave his club of 4 years and search for a new club. His club Sunningdale doesn't have enough players to make up an under 14/15 side. The schools in the area are not promoting cricket and the teacher/ coaches at schools have no experience of the game. The most prestigious school for cricket in the area , Milnerton high is looking for kids to make up their sides...in years before there used to be a first all the way to fifth side in each age group. Now Milnerton ( where De Allende and Daniel Vickerman went ), is struggling to field a second team. The clubs are grabbing up whatever players they can get there hands on. Its all falling apart. There is no oversight at the schools and sport is not being encouraged. The private schools are the worst.
Sport should be a choice and not compulsory at school. If you want to play rugby, go join a club where a trained and qualified coach can coach you. Not just Mr Smith the grade 2 Maths teacher.
The problem lies in the fact that kids since Covid are not interested in extra mural activities and cant wait to get home to get onto fortnite or whatever the fancy is at the moment...and parents have fallen into that trap because during lockdown these distractions kept the kids busy....making sports compulsory at school and providing proper coaching is the only way to feed the clubs. There has to be an initial interest at school , and then the move to club when you feel that its going to benefit the kid further. At Milnerton high where I would prefer my kids to go , the teachers are selected for 2 reasons , academic acumen and a coaching or mentor role....I know as we are friends with teachers there. If you cannot provide both you will not teach there.
There is a huge difference between Club and school....At club your stats are monitored and its a lot of pressure on the kids to perform....When my kid bowled the middle stumps out of the 2 openers of the opposition on Saturday you should have seen how they reacted when leaving the pitch.....the deep dissapointment and tears , these kids are performers and those figures are going to affect their stats....besides which my son was restricting their scoring eventually forcing them into shots that got their wickets ..... so the frustration is real.
At school its just for fun.....so when you start improving more than the other kids thats when you look at joining a club. You have to understand that its a huge move for the kids...suddenly you go from being the big fish in a small pond to being the small fish in a huge pool and everyone is more skilled and talented than you having being playing club for years....But ultimately the schools need to awaken the desire and the clubs refine the kids with better coaching and playing facilities.
